Today is the day, the polls are open. Vote YES for Batavia Township Fire.

Local elections like this are often decided by just a small handful of votes. That means your vote truly matters.

A YES vote means:

• Saving the jobs of six dedicated firefighters who put their lives on the line for us every single day
• Building a third fire station so help arrives faster when our families need it most
• Replacing aging equipment before it fails in an emergency
• Keeping roughly $1 million in TIF funding right here in the Township
• Creating a fairer funding system for Township taxpayers by eliminating the impact of Village abatements on fire funding

Important note on cost: The ballot lists a rate of $333 per $100,000 of property value. However, because CJFED will be dissolved with the creation of Batavia Township, the existing fire levy will be removed. This makes the actual net increase about $184 per $100,000 per year — roughly $15 per month.

Our firefighters are there for us during our worst moments — house fires, medical emergencies, car crashes. Now they need us to show up for them. Polls are open 6:30 AM – 7:30 PM.

Vote YES for Batavia Township Fire — and help keep our community safe.

🔥 Time to fight fire with fire again!

As we approach Tuesday, May 5, it’s important to understand how this is different from last November's CJFED levy.

❌ The CJFED levy would have:

-Kept the current joint fire department shared with the Village of Batavia
-Continued the funding imbalance (Village receives more than $2 of service for every $1 it pays in to CJFED)
-Allowed that gap to grow with ongoing abatements
-Shifted fire board control to the Village
-Continued sending TIF dollars out of the Township

✅ The Township Fire Levy will:

-Create a Township-operated fire department
-Replace CJFED and its current levies
-Remove the impact of Village abatements on fire funding
-Keep decisions local to Township residents
-Keep about $1M/year in TIF funding in the Township

Bottom line:

This is about fairness, local control, and a more sustainable fire service.

As we approach Election Day, we kindly ask for your support.

Every vote matters—please get out and vote.

Updated Key Fact About the Batavia Township Fire Levy

We shared similar information a few weeks ago and received great engagement. We’ve continued listening to your comments and questions, so here are some updated facts.

1. Tax Abatements

The Village of Batavia has been issuing abatements, not the township. Moving to a township fire department will eliminate the negative impact that the Village’s abatements currently have on fire funding.

No residential tax abatements in Batavia Township.

2. Levy Structure
This is a township levy and is completely separate from the Village of Batavia. If passed, our current joint fire district shared with the Village of Batavia (CJFED) would be dissolved and replaced by the new Batavia Township Fire Department.

3. Projected Tax Increase
The net increase for township properties is approximately $184 per $100,000 of valuation.
This net increase applies uniformly to all properties, whether they are located inside a TIF district or not.

4. Increase Calculation
$333 (ballot tax language) − $149 (current CJFED taxes) = ~$184 net increase per $100,000 of valuation

5. TIF Revenue
Fire revenue currently diverted to Clermont County under county TIF agreements would return to the township if the levy passes. Approximately $1 million a year would remain in the township.

6. Staffing Plans:

-The township plans to make lateral transfers for current CJFED employees.
-Six staff members are currently funded through grant funding. If the levy fails, those positions may be eliminated.

7.Fire Stations and Equipment:

- Upon passage of the levy, the current CJFED assets will be divided between the parties. Please note that Batavia Township currently provides 93% of the funding for the joint district.
-Both fire stations will remain open and will continue to operate with the existing equipment.
-A third fire station is planned for the western portion of the township.

8. Current Millage Rate
CJFED currently has the lowest effective millage rate among neighboring fire departments.

Bottom line:

This levy is about fair funding, local control, and maintaining reliable fire and EMS service for Batavia Township.

🚨 National Hero. Local Risk.

In February, a 19-year-old from Batavia flipped her truck into the freezing Little Miami River in Batavia Township. Trapped underwater with inches of air left, she was rescued by Firefighter/EMT Tommy Jetter, the first in the water. The dramatic rescue made ABC National News and local stations across Ohio.

Now that same hero could lose his job if the Fire Levy fails on May 5.

Staffing is already strained. A key federal grant expires soon. Without this levy, cuts are coming, fewer firefighters for our growing community when seconds count.

Vote YES on the Batavia Township Fire Levy May 5 to keep heroes like Tommy on the job, maintain response times, and protect our families.

This could be your loved one next. Don’t wait.
