One of the many powerful songs shared by Ray Wilson, owner of High Fidelity and music enthusiast, during the 'What’s Going On: A History of Musical Protest' event was “Which Side Are You On?”

Written by Florence Reece in 1931 during the violent labor struggle known as the Harlan County War in Kentucky, the song grew out of the fight between coal miners, union organizers, and mine owners. It was later performed by Pete Seeger and became one of the enduring songs associated with the American labor movement.

Throughout the evening, Ray explored how music has both reflected social movements and helped give people a voice during moments of struggle and change.

This event benefited the San Jac Coalition and its efforts to provide low-cost music lessons for Potter County kids with creativity and potential just waiting to be encouraged.

An interview Texans were supposed to be able to watch on broadcast television is now available only online.

Jimmy Kimmel’s interview with Texas U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico did not air on ABC and was instead released in full on YouTube.

Kimmel says the decision was made because of pressure and threats from the FCC toward his show, ABC, and local affiliates over political guest bookings. The dispute centers, in part, on the FCC’s recent approach to equal-time requirements for television talk shows.

Whatever your politics, Texans deserve the opportunity to hear directly from candidates seeking to represent them, and questions about government pressure on editorial decisions deserve serious attention.

Our next Tri-State Fair Parade Prep session has been moved again. Please update your calendars: we will now meet on Thursday, September 10, at 5:30 PM at the Texas Panhandle Democratic Headquarters.

Join us as we continue preparing Panhandle Democrats’ float for the Tri-State Fair & Rodeo Parade. Creators, crafters, makers, doers, and helpers are all welcome. Come for part of the evening or stay as long as you can!

Helping with the float does not obligate you to walk or ride in the parade, although we would love to have you join us on parade day too.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out tonight to help us get started on our Tri State Fair & Rodeo Parade float, and especially to Cullin Knutson for State Representative, Jerri For Judge, and Jessi Barrientos for Potter County - TX District Clerk for helping bring everything together!

We still have work to do before parade day, and we would love more hands to help us finish preparing. Join us for our next float prep session, and don’t forget, we also need plenty of volunteers to walk or ride with us in the parade on September 19! Bring your friends and family and help Panhandle Democrats show up strong in our community.
