The new Joe and Laura Street Day Center under construction with plans to open in September 2026.

After almost five years of strategic planning, relationship building, and deep thought, the Guyon Saunders Resource Center is on the move - to Transformation Park. The partnership with the City of Amarillo, churches, nonprofit boards, and Amarillo businesses as well as many, many volunteers culminate into the official move of services and programs for the homeless to Transformation Park and the Hub. When the Street Day Center which is under construction is finished late this year, the City of Amarillo Community Development Department will occupy the building and Transformation Park nonprofit will assume full responsibility. Because there will be support for and consolidation of all aspects of caring for the homeless, the GSRC will transform into an oversight board only for construction needs of the Street Day Center and eventually dissolve. The outcome will be longer hours of operation during the day, three hot meals a day, more types of services and opportunities in a more effective and efficient way. We could not have envisioned a better outcome for the homeless. This is the exciting part!

A huge thank you to Transformation Park, the City of Amarillo, and the countless people, organizations, and businesses who have been a part of this monumental change to improve the support for the unhoused. It really is a dream team!

An eye opening interview!

Experts say people experiencing homelessness die decades sooner than the average American — often from typically treatable illnesses — and a dire challenge in Amarillo is a lack of access to health care.
