Our Story

Our mission at Lone Star Scales and Tails is to provide a safe and educational hands-on experience with animals from all around the world. We are a USDA licensed and insured facility. LSS&T was started in a small building space in Amarillo, TX in 2015. The idea for such a place was driven by a desire to provide a sanctuary for orphaned, injured, unwanted, and neglected animals, and to teach others about the beauty, purpose, and uniqueness of the animals in our care. Since 2015, we have more than doubled the size of our facility. LSS&T currently provides food, shelter, veterinary care, rehabilitation, and enrichment to well over 200 native and exotic animals. In September of 2018, we were able to enclose the area behind our building to provide a safe place for unwanted and neglected livestock.

Conservation Through Education

With the expansion of our facility, we opened our doors to the public. LSS&T is now able to host school field trips, Scout meetings, special needs groups, and summer camps. By providing face to face, hands-on experiences with the animals, we believe folks will be more driven to participate in future conservation efforts.
