🚧ROAD CLOSURE AND UTILITY REPAIR– INTERSECTION OF STEELE ROAD AND SMITH DRIVE🚧

Please be advised that Reddico Construction will be working to install sewer pipe across the intersection of Steele Road and Smith Drive, and the City of Alvin will be replacing a section of waterline beginning Wednesday, September 9, 2026, and will need to close the intersection until their work there is completed which is anticipated to be by Thursday, September 24, 2026. This completion is dependent on the weather.

During this time, all traffic needing to access Smith Drive will need to re-route to Spur 273 and turn on Medic Lane to get to Smith Drive. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, use an alternate route, and allow additional travel time during the closure. As always, we thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Travel safe, Alvin! 🚗

Drainage Improvements Underway Near Callaway

You may have noticed some work happening in the Callaway area near Kost and Adoue. The City of Alvin and Brazoria County C&R3 are working together on improvements to the drainage ditch in this area, known as the M-1 Ditch.

Crews are re-grading approximately 5,092 feet of the ditch, beginning at the detention pond at Kost and continuing to Adoue near Callaway.

The goal is simple: improve drainage, help reduce the potential for flooding, and allow stormwater to flow more efficiently through the ditch.

As part of the project, crews also removed and replaced a large culvert with approximately 40 feet of new 48-inch culvert. The old culvert sat about 10 inches higher than the flowline of the ditch, which could cause rainwater to pool rather than flow freely through the drainage system.

- approximately 5,092 feet of ditch being re-graded
- Improved stormwater flow
- New 48-inch culvert installed
- Partnership with Brazoria County C&R3
- Expected completion: September 10

This work is another step toward improving drainage in the Callaway area and helping our drainage system work more effectively when the rain comes.
