The Altus Police Department is asking for your help to locate Laura Bush. She is an at-risk individual & she has not been seen since September 1st, 2026. It is imperative that we make contact with her to verify her safety!

Laura is described as a 54-year-old white female, 5"2, weighing approximately 100 pounds. She has brown hair, hazel eyes, and is known to wear glasses. She was last seen wearing a pink shirt and carrying an orange colored "Elmo" backpack.

🚨SCAM ALERT🚨
PHONE CALLS DEMANDING PAYMENT FOR BOND

The Altus Police Department has received several reports of phone scams involving individuals impersonating members of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

In these scams, the caller tells the victim that a family member, friend, or other person they know has been arrested. The scammer then claims the person is eligible for a special release or bond if the victim makes a payment over the phone.

THIS IS A SCAM!

The Altus Police Department and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office will NOT contact you by phone to demand payment using a debit card, prepaid card, gift card, cash card, or any other card purchased from a store.

Information regarding arrests and bond amounts is generally public record and can be verified by contacting the appropriate law enforcement agency directly.

If you receive a suspicious call:
• Ask the caller for their name, position, and agency.
• Tell the caller that you will contact the agency directly to verify the information.
• DO NOT call any phone number provided by the caller.
• Look up the agency’s official contact information independently and call the agency using that number.
• Do not provide the caller with your credit/debit card information, prepaid card numbers, PINs, Social Security number, or other personal information.
• If the call is legitimate, the law enforcement agency will be able to verify the information when you contact them directly.

Remember: When in doubt, hang up and contact the law enforcement agency independently.

Please share this information with family members, friends, and especially elderly individuals who may be targeted by these scams.

🚨S*X & VIOLENT OFFENDER🚨
Steven Andrew Garcia has registered with the Altus Police Department as “Homeless/Transient”. He is not actively wanted for any crimes, and he has appropriately registered as a S*x Offender and a Violent Offender with the Altus Police Department.
*S*X OFFENSE* Steven Garcia was convicted on 07-12-2017 of “Rape by Instrumentation” in Frederick, Tillman County, Oklahoma. *VIOLENT OFFENSE* Steven Garcia was convicted on 01-04-2008 of “Assault with a Deadly Weapon” in Frederick, Tillman County, Oklahoma. Steven Garcia is described as a Hispanic male, 5 ft 5 in tall, weighing approximately 185 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He is known to have a goatee.
The Altus Police Department has been notified by the Oklahoma Department of Corrections that Steven Garcia is a S*xual Offender & a Violent Offender. As outlined in Oklahoma State Statute Title 57 O.S. § 1991, the Police Department of that jurisdiction is required by state statute to notify the citizens of the Offenders information. Steven Garcia is classified as a Level 3, Aggravated Offender & he is required to register as a S*x Offender every 90 days for the duration of his lifetime. He is further prohibited from entering any city, county, state, federal, or tribal park due to his “Aggravated” status. Also, according to state statute, whenever a Violent Offender moves to a location, the Police Department of that jurisdiction is required by state statute to notify the citizens of that information.
