Verobish Amendment Provides Protections to Small Businesses’ Choice in Tax Collection Software Bill

HARRISBURG – State Rep. Andrea Verobish (R-Blair) offered an amendment to House Bill 2300, a measure that would allow the Department of Revenue to mandate a real-time tax collection software for the Commonwealth’s businesses. Verobish’s amendment made two changes.

First, it added language that requires the department to wait until any appeals are completed before entering a taxpayer into the program. Second, it gives the taxpayer 60 days from the date of notification by the department to pay what they owe before being entered into the program.

“While a noble intention, I worry that House Bill 2300 would have placed an undue burden on our small businesses,” Verobish said. “My amendment would ensure only taxpayers that are truly delinquent are enrolled in the real time sales tax collection program proposed by this legislation. We all know how hard it can be to keep track of everything going on in our daily lives, and giving the taxpayers a chance to settle their debt before forcing them to participate in the tax collection program under this bill is something we should encourage.”

Verobish’s amendment passed unanimously and is now included in House Bill 2300. The measure now awaits third and final consideration before the House.

Childcare costs have skyrocketed across the Commonwealth. That's why I was proud to take part in today's Policy Committee unveiling of a legislative package to help make childcare more affordable for working families.

I'm co-sponsoring House Bill 2562, a measure to create a statutory exception for providers who provide school-age child care on school property in a before/after school program.

Right now, children who play on the school playground during school hours may not do so once they are in the after-school program due to a conflict between state agency regulations.

This is just one of many unnecessary regulations facing the childcare industry. If we can pass all 14 of these bills, it will ease the burden on childcare providers, make it easier to do business, and lower costs.

I’m proud to join dozens of my colleagues in pledging to fight the governor’s plan to drain the Rainy Day Fund to balance an irresponsible budget proposal.

The Rainy Day Fund was created for emergencies, not to kickstart perpetual government programs with no permanent funding source.

Short-sighted moves like this lead to tax increases. And I believe Pennsylvanians already send too much money to Harrisburg. We need a fiscally responsible budget plan, not more deficit spending.

Thank you to LeadingAge PA for stopping by and sharing insights on the challenges and opportunities facing senior care providers across Pennsylvania. We had a productive discussion about the importance of ensuring high-quality care for older adults while addressing workforce shortages that continue to impact the industry. I appreciate the conversation and look forward to working together on solutions that support both caregivers and the seniors who rely on them.

In today’s Children and Youth Committee meeting, the ugly side of politics was on display.

Our committee was called to consider Senate Bill 9, also known as the Save Women’s Sports Act. This measure would ensure female student athletes compete in high school and college sports on a level playing field by preventing biological males from taking part in female competitions.

Rather than vote on this bill, House Democrats keep re-referring it, punting it from committee to committee. In fact, House Democrats voted today to send it back to the House Health Committee, which already considered it and re-referred it!

Democrats hold the majority in the House. If they don’t like this bill, why not vote it down? Instead, they’re playing political games, jeopardizing the fairness and safety of Pennsylvania women and girls.

Leave the games to the athletes. Call up the Save Women’s Sports Act for the vote it deserves.

It was a pleasure to meet John and his father today as part of the So Every Body Can Move advocacy effort.

Hearing directly from individuals who rely on prosthetic and orthotic care reinforces the importance of ensuring access to the devices and services that help people maintain their independence, mobility, and quality of life. For many Pennsylvanians, these technologies are not a luxury—they are essential to participating in daily life, pursuing careers, and staying active in their communities.

Thank you to John, his father, and all the advocates who shared their stories and helped raise awareness about the importance of accessible prosthetic and orthotic care.

Thank you to Senator Judy Wardfor the invitation to attend the Commonwealth Prayer Breakfast this morning. It was a meaningful opportunity to join colleagues from across Pennsylvania in reflection, fellowship, and prayer.

The Prayer Breakfast is always a great way to start the day, especially before a long session day at the Capitol. I appreciate the chance to gather with others and focus on the values of service, gratitude, and leadership that guide our work on behalf of Pennsylvanians. With Senator Greg Rothman, Senator Kim Ward and PA State Rep. Scott Barger.
