Wisconsin woodland owners know: there's a sweet spot in the season before the heat settles in. That window? It's right now!

May is one of the best times of year to get meaningful work done in your woods. You can beat the heat and tackle projects that become a lot harder come mid-summer.

A good place to start? Go out for a walk while the understory is still open and the morning air is cool. Note where garlic mustard is flowering, where trails need attention, and where you want to focus energy before the season shifts.

Even 30 minutes with fresh eyes on your land can shape the rest of your woodland. From there, start to make a plan of what you want to tackle this month, or the next time you visit your land.

In the meantime tell us: what's one woodland chore you could live without. 😅

Crabgrass control is a common part of spring lawn care. The best way to manage it is by using a mix of good lawn care habits—like proper mowing, watering, and fertilizing—rather than relying only on pre-emergent herbicides.

Learn all about it in this week's Wisconsin Lawn and Garden, and don't miss the link to our new in-depth crabgrass factsheet at the end!
