September 19 — Ukrainian Borsch Day at The Yard in Altoona!🇺🇸🇺🇦
We are two Ukrainian sisters who have dreamed of creating a special Ukrainian tradition here in the Chippewa Valley.
As long as Borsch House exists, we want to celebrate Ukrainian Borsch Day every year by serving free borsch to our guests.
For us, borsch is much more than just food. It is part of our home, our history, our family memories, and the culture we brought with us from Ukraine.
The culture of cooking Ukrainian borsch has been recognized by UNESCO as part of Ukraine’s intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent safeguarding. That is why it means so much to us to share this tradition with as many people as possible and help keep it alive.
Every time someone cooks Ukrainian borsch at home, shares it with family or friends, or simply tells someone about this tradition, it helps keep a small part of Ukrainian culture alive.
If more people discover, taste, and come to love Ukrainian borsch because of Borsch House, then we know we are doing this for a reason. ❤️
On September 19, we would love to welcome you and introduce you to a little piece of Ukrainian culture.
That day at The Yard, you will be welcomed by us in traditional Ukrainian clothing. There will be Ukrainian music, a small Ukrainian-style market with souvenirs and cultural items, Ukrainian food, and lots of fun.
You will also have a chance to learn about Petrykivka painting, one of the most beloved and recognizable forms of Ukrainian decorative art. We invited a talented artist -Horvat who will share her work, explain this tradition, and show why it is so loved in Ukraine.
Come celebrate Ukrainian Borsch Day with us and help us keep this beautiful tradition alive — even far from Ukraine. 💛💙
