On 8/8/2026 at approximately 0800 hours, Detective Sergeant Donahue responded to a residence near the area of Mount Major Highway and the Gilford Town Line for a reported missing elderly woman suffering from cognitive decline who had been missing for some time. Sergeant Donahue called in assistance of other units including APD K9 team Officer Christian Johnson and his K9 partner Ripp along with NH Marine Patrol due to the close proximity to the water. K9 Ripp and Handler Officer Johnson were able to pick up the track of the missing person quickly and located her in short order on a rocky embankment a good distance from her home and within feet from the water. The woman was suffering from non-live threating injuries and was treated on scene by APD officers and Marine Patrol before Alton Fire Rescue arrived. The team was able to move the woman safely onto the AFD ambulance for transport and elevated care. APD thanks our partners with the NH Marine Patrol, Alton Fire Rescue, and a special thank you to our very own Officer Johnson and K9 Ripp for locating the missing woman.

Earlier today, two new Alton PD Officers were sworn in by Town Clerk Jennifer Collins and presented with their badges. We are excited and proud to add Officer Matthew Johnson and Officer William Borenstein to the fulltime roster! After administrative training this week, both new officers will begin extensive months long field training next week and attend the NH Police Academy later in the year. We are fortunate to have recruited these two gentlemen to our beautiful Town. They both bring a wealth of life experience and knowledge to the PD. We are confident they will serve with dignity, humility, compassion, and the utmost integrity our town expects from our police department. Please extend a warm welcome to Matt and Bill and say hello to them if you get a chance. You will see them on patrol paired with seasoned field training officers soon.
