Dove Season is Underway in Texas!

With the start of dove season, we invited Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden R. Cantu to stop by the Alton Police Department during roll call to visit with our officers.

Game Warden Cantu discussed current hunting trends and reviewed specific laws related to hunting, including the discharge of fi****ms within the City’s Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ).

We appreciate Game Warden Cantu taking the time to share his knowledge and help ensure our officers are prepared to respond to hunting-related calls during the season.

Opioid Awareness & Prevention

Last night, we hosted our Opioid Awareness Event, where participants had the opportunity to connect with community partners and learn about available resources.

The presentation covered opioid dangers, current overdose trends, recognizing an overdose, and the proper administration of Narcan.

We thank our community partners and everyone who contributed donations, resources, and support to make this event possible.

🚸 CROSSWALK SAFETY: BE SAFE. WALK SMART. DRIVE SMART. 🚸

The Alton Police Department, in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Mission CISD , Sharyland ISD , and La Joya ISD reminds our community that crosswalk safety is a shared responsibility. Whether you’re behind the wheel or on foot, stay alert, follow traffic signals, and watch out for one another, especially during school hours.

🚗 DRIVERS:
✅ Keep crosswalks CLEAR — do not stop or park over them.
✅ Watch carefully for children and pedestrians at intersections.
✅ YELLOW means SLOW DOWN and prepare to stop — NOT speed up!
✅ Use extra caution in school zones and during school arrival and dismissal times.
✅ Yield to pedestrians and check crosswalks before making a turn.
✅ Put the phone down and keep your attention on the road.

🚶 PEDESTRIANS:
✅ Cross at designated intersections and crosswalks whenever available.
✅ WAIT FOR THE WALK SIGNAL before entering the roadway.
✅ Pay attention to pedestrian countdown signals and do not begin crossing when the DON’T WALK signal is displayed.
✅ Never assume a driver sees you — make sure traffic has stopped before crossing.
✅ LOOK LEFT. LOOK RIGHT. LOOK LEFT AGAIN. 👀

⚠️ A few extra seconds of patience can prevent a tragedy.

Drivers and pedestrians both have a role in keeping our children, families, and community safe.
