🚨 Alton Residents – Important Alert System Update 🚨

With Alton recently in the path of several severe storms, staying informed has never been more important. ⛈️

Madison County EMA is transitioning from CodeRed to a new alert system, Everbridge, due to ongoing issues like duplicate alerts, incorrect locations, and unclear messages.

⚠️ Both systems are currently active—but Everbridge will be the primary system moving forward.

📲 Take a minute to register or update your info:

📞 Alerts from Everbridge will come from 618-296-3500

If you were previously signed up for CodeRed, your info has been transferred—but it’s still a good idea to double check your details.

Stay alert. Stay safe, Alton. 💙

Today, May 3rd, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

On National Firefighters Memorial Day, we reflect on their courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to protecting others—often at great personal risk. Their legacy lives on in every call answered, every life saved, and every firefighter who continues to serve.

We stand in remembrance. We stand in gratitude. We will never forget. 🔥🇺🇸

Big congratulations are in order 👏🚒

Today, members of the Alton Fire Department had the honor of attending the graduation at Southwestern Illinois College for two of our newest firefighters, Tom Henrich and Justin Davison.

After 8 weeks of intense academy training—and with a couple more weeks of specialized training ahead—these two are well on their way to joining our crews on shift the week of May 18.

This is where the hard work begins, and we couldn’t be more proud to welcome them to the team! 💪🔥

Our probationary firefighters are heading into their final week of full-time academy—and the finish line is in sight.

The long days, tough drills, and nonstop learning are about to pay off. We’re proud of the work you’ve put in and can’t wait to see you finish strong and officially join the ranks.

One more push—let’s go. 🚒💪

🚨 Training That Saves Lives 🚨

This past week, our crews completed hands-on extrication training—practicing the skills needed to safely remove patients from vehicles during emergencies. Training like this keeps us ready when every second matters.

A big thank you to Junk Brothers for hosting and supporting our department!

As we move into burn season, a reminder to help keep our community safe and in compliance with City of Alton guidelines 🔥🌿

Outdoor leaf burning is only permitted on Wednesdays and Saturdays during October, November, and December, and from April 15 through May 30 — and only between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM ⏰

Please keep these important rules in mind:
• Burning must be done at least 15 feet from any structure 🏠
• A garden hose or water source should be available for immediate use 💧
• Fire must be continuously supervised by an adult 👀
• Burning is NOT allowed on public streets or alleys 🚫
• Only leaves, plants, and shrubs may be burned—no trash, garbage, or other materials 🍃
• Any burning outside of these guidelines is a violation ⚠️
• Extinguish the fire completely when finished 🔥➡️💨
• Burning that creates excessive smoke or becomes hazardous due to weather or conditions may be ordered extinguished ⚠️
• Do not use flammable or combustible liquids to start a fire 🚫

These guidelines are in place to help protect our neighbors, property, and first responders. Let’s do our part to keep Alton safe and looking its best.
