Attention Neighbors:

The Paper Gator + Recycling Bin area is not a landfill.

If the bins are full, please DO NOT pile your junk around them like some kind of trash shrine. It’s understandable the wind will occasionally take something away. What’s not reasonable is blatantly putting trash on the ground.

We’re discouraged seeing the recycling turning into a dump site every week. If this keeps up, we could lose the recycling bins completely.

The raccoons are living their best lives out there. The rest of us? Not so much.

What someone wears in the water can make a difference during an emergency:

🌊 POOLS: Bright neon colors like orange, yellow, and lime green are usually easiest to spot underwater. Light blues, whites, and darker colors can blend into the water and become harder to see.

🌊 LAKES & BEACHES: Bright, contrasting colors tend to stand out best in natural water conditions where visibility can change quickly.

Swimsuit color is never a substitute for supervision, but it can help when seconds matter.

The City of Walker thanks the community for their overwhelming support, understanding, and respect for privacy as we all continue to mourn the tremendous, unexpected loss of Chief Russell (Rusty) Shoultz.

As the family wishes, in-person attendance at the funeral services will be limited to family, close friends, the Walker team, and fire service partners. However, the service will be livestreamed at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, May 9, and accessible on the City of Walker Fire Department - Michigan page.

We ask the community and media to continue to respect the family’s wishes for privacy and to refrain from seeking specific funeral details or interviews during this incredibly difficult time.

When it comes to honoring Chief Shoultz’s legacy, we understand many in the community wish to express their condolences and honor Chief Shoultz’s service. The following options are available:

▫️ Fire Station 1 Memorial: A memorial has been set up outside Fire Station 1, 4343 Remembrance Road NW, for those who wish to leave items in honor of Chief Shoultz. Flowers, notes, or other tokens of remembrance can be placed near the fire truck.

▫️Condolences: Cards and messages for the family, Fire Department, or City staff can be sent to [email protected] or mailed to 4343 Remembrance Road NW to be compiled and shared.

We are beyond grateful for the incredible support shown at our pancake supper 🥞🚒

Seeing our community come together—sharing meals, laughter, and kindness—means more to us than words can say. Every plate served and every smile shared helps fuel what we do, both in and out of the station.

Thank you for showing up, for supporting your local firefighters, and for reminding us why we’re proud to serve this community every single day ❤️

Tomorrow! Hope to see you soon!
