Tonight at 19:08 the Altmar Volunteer Fire Department was activated for a river rescue. A couple fishing in the salmon river called in a large distressed Rottweiler in the middle of the river. They waited until Altmar Units arrived. 203 was on scene first and located the dog as other crew members arrived and help es**rt this big teddy bear safely back to shore. The dog was reunited with his owner. The Altmar Volunteer Fire Department would like thank the New York State police, Oswego County Sheriff, and the public who helped with this situation.

The members of the Altmar Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank everyone who came out and supported us at our 20th annual poker ride.
Congratulations to the winners.
Best hand went to Mike Beadle with 400 dollars.
2nd best hand was Mellissa Spina
Who donated the 300 dollars back to Fire company.
3rd was Mary Parmenter who won 200 dollars.
Congratulations to Anna Jerome on winning the new ATV.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the 2027 ride.

Here is some info with the stops and registration for the upcoming Altmar volunteer fire department poker ride. There will be additional parking at the American legion located at 13 Church St. Altmar. Only one block from the station 15 Bridge st.

Come check out our Small-Town Proud parade this Memorial Day. The Town of Albion and The Altmar Volunteer Fire Department want to recognize those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom of this great country we live in. The parade starts in front of the post office and ends at the cemetery.

Tonight members of the Almar Volunteer Fire Department worked on extraction skills for our monthly drill. We talked about the importance of disconnecting the battery and stabilizing the vehicle before the extraction begins. Deflating tires, air bags or the use of spreaders with cribbing are some of the ways to stabilize the vehicle.

Due to this event, the Altmar fire department will be canceling our chicken barbecue for May 2nd. Please come out and show your support for the youth trout fishing derby. We will schedule another barbecue on a later date.
