In the days after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the members of the Altamont Rescue Squad answered the call of duty to aid in the rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero.

Altamont Free Library is proud to display this fragment of steel taken from the ruins of the Twin Towers, which was presented to the Altamont Rescue Squad in gratitude for their courageous and selfless service.

On this sad anniversary, we extend our gratitude to the members of the Altamont Rescue Squad and all of the heroic first responders who made us all so proud twenty-five years ago. Their service will never be forgotten.

What a summer we had!

We’re not always very good about remembering to take photos when we’re having a good time, but trust us: We had a really good time with this yearns Summer Reading Program!

Altogether, we had 133 registrations and and average of 55 check-ins per week and those are both amazing numbers!

Even more amazing was how much reading everyone did! Altogether, our kiddos read 47,140 minutes or 786 hours. That’s more than 250 hours more than last year! Incredible!

We had 313 sightings of Sam the Eagle, our annual scavenger hunt stuffie, and were very happy to report that Sam has found a very happy new home with Maddie!

We hope that all of our participants are proud of all the quill-writing, jumping jack-ing, Statue of Liberty building, new veggie trying, Sam finding, house run around-ing, and history factoid learning they did all summer long. We especially hope that they’re all as proud as we are of all the reading they did, because it was a LOT!

One of our favorite things we get to do is to show off the incredible artistic talent we have all around us. We’re very pleased to invite you to check out Pastel Impressions, a new exhibit by local artist Trudi Jacobson!

Trudi is inspired by color: Cloud formations, sunrises and sunsets are all featured prominently in this exhibit of pastels. Trudi's work will be enlivening our Community Room through October 13th.
