UPDATE: Due to the recent heavy rain, we need to postpone the tree planting (the site is currently very swampy). We are looking at a potential time/date of Saturday, May 2 at 6 pm, but we will update this post when a final time is selected by the Tree Board.

On Monday, April 27th at 7:00 pm, please join the Alta Vista Tree Board in celebrating Arbor Day! We will be planting a new 'Frontier' Elm to provide shade for our new playground equipment and play area.

The City of Alta Vista is currently hiring for a part time seasonal employee for mowing/weed eating. Must be at least 17yrs old & have a valid drivers license. Applications are available at City Hall and must be received by May 8, 2026 at 4pm.

There are more folks getting out and enjoying the nice weather lately, and we've had a couple questions about operating ATVs, UTVs, and golf carts in town.

The relevant sections of City Code are attached, but the takeaway is that operating these vehicles on City streets is very similar to operating a regular vehicle.

The City of Alta Vista is proud to announce that we’ve attracted the Chiefs to build their new stadium right here, instead of in the much more expensive KC Metro area. City Superintendent Jeff Ginnett has agreed to mow the grass and snowplow the new parking lots, but only if he can wear his Seahawks hat. In the interest of clarity, and to avoid any assumptions flying around, the City of Alta Vista was not involved in any aspect of Sen. Marshall's meeting that was apparently scheduled and then cancelled in Alta Vista. His office did not communicate details of the event, or the event's cancellation, to the City. We know about as much as you do. Just wanted to clear that up.

Sen. Marshall, if you read this, you'd be welcome to come to Alta Vista any time for a chat and/or a great burger at the Barnyard Cafe. We don't think it's likely that there would be any safety concerns, but we'd be happy to work with your staff (and our fantastic Wabaunsee County Sheriff's Office) to make sure everyone feels safe.
