Dear neighbors and friends,
The numbers are all in and it's with a heavy heart I must say that we fell just short of the mark of winning in this election. With 36% of the vote, we came in second place among the three candidates. While no candidate in the race received a majority of the vote, Alpharetta does not conduct run-off elections and whoever wins the most votes (a plurality) will be the final winner on election day.
While today we are not celebrating like we had all hoped, there is still so much to be proud of! We ran a great campaign full of the best volunteers one could hope for, we kept the message about the issues and never went negative, and along the way, so many new friendships were formed.
The whole campaign was a great experience and I would like to congratulate our new Councilmembers Brian Will of Post 2, and my opponent, Doug DeRerito of Post 3, and Donald Mitchell for winning his seat back in Post 1. I would like to wish them luck for the four years ahead and trust they will always keep Alpharetta's best interest at the forefront of their minds and in their hearts.
While it won't be on the Council this time around, I will continue to serve my community day in and day out wherever possible.
There is a line from Hamilton that really speaks to me this morning: "If there's a fire you're trying to douse, You can't put it out from inside the house" - which is to say, sometimes the biggest impact can be made from working outside the system, and that is what I will continue to do, as I have done for many years past.
Finally, I want to thank so many people for their support and mentorship these last months. My parents who have worked daily to help with the campaign and support me throughout, my wife who acted like a campaign manager and always kept me on track, my friends who spent many hours writing postcards, knocking on doors, and spreading the word, and the other volunteers and donors who came from all over town to provide their time and assistance.
Most importantly, I would like to thank you - the voter - for your support and for placing your trust in me.
Until next time, Alpharetta, be good, be safe, and I'll see you again.
