Good morning Beavercreek!

In case you missed it, we had some snow overnight! We wanted to share a couple safety reminders because of the drifting snow.

First, make sure your exhaust vents are clear of snow. The drifting snow can easily pile up and block them

And secondly while you're outside, clear a 3 foot circle away from any fire hydrant in front of your house. This saves us valuable seconds in the event of a fire.

Finally, stay warm, stay safe, and stay inside!

Beavercreek Firefighters are going red for a cause this month!

January is Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month, and these shirts represent our commitment to protecting those who protect you and supporting those fighting this terrible diagnosis

For our crews, the "toxic cocktail" of chemicals found in modern fires isn't just a hazard—it’s a life-threatening reality.

Why we wear these shirts:
The Leading Threat: Occupational cancer is now the leading cause of line-of-duty deaths in the fire service.

Staggering Loss: In 2025, nearly 80% of the names added to the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial were lost to occupational cancer.

Increased Risk: Firefighters have a 9% higher risk of being diagnosed with cancer and a 14% higher risk of dying from it compared to the general public.

High-Risk Types: Our firefighters face a 58% higher mortality rate for skin cancer and a 40% higher rate for kidney cancer due to the nature of the job.

These shirts are a symbol and reminder of the risks we face, and support for those battling the various forms of cancer. Keep an eye out for our members wearing them throughout the community this month!

Great news for Ohio! The PTSI bill has finally passed, providing much-needed support for our first responders and other individuals who experience PTSI in the line of duty. This bill is a vital step towards ensuring they receive the care they deserve, and we're relieved Ohio has finally joined the majority of states offering this coverage. Thank you to all the advocates who worked so hard on this!

Fire Fighters step into some of the most dangerous environments, working inches from high-speed traffic to save lives, clear scenes, and protect the public.

Their safety depends on drivers making smart, simple choices:
✅ Slow down
✅ Move over
✅ No distractions, phones down.

Protect those who protect you.

When you change your clocks for Daylight Saving Time this weekend, take a moment to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors too.

Remember:
✅ Change the batteries
✅ Test the alarms
✅ Replace detectors per manufacturer recommendations

Working alarms are one of the most effective ways to protect your family and home.

We're incredibly proud to be a part of the Dayton Honor Flight "water salute." This tradition involves fire trucks spraying arcs of water over an aircraft, a symbolic gesture of respect and a welcome home for the veterans returning from their trip to Washington, D.C. It was a true honor to be a part of this special day and to thank our local heroes for their service.

Did you know that the first honor flight was from our area? Flying out of Springfield with just 12 veterans it has transformed into a nationwide network to give our veterans the opportunity to see the various memorials in Washington, DC. The Dayton chapter is entirely volunteer based and operates on the donations of individuals and companies who wish to assist in honoring our veterans. If you are interested in helping their mission, more information can be found here:

An hour into shift this morning crews were called to the Stroop parking garage at the Greene for a reported car fire inside the garage. These incidents create more challenges for crews due to the confined area of the fire, distance from the engine, and large amount of trapped smoke which quickly creates a nearly zero visibility environment.

Engines 64 and 63 along with Ladder 61 and Battalion 61 were able to extend a handline into the building and quickly extinguish the fire. Fortunately there were no cars nearby for the fire to spread to and damage

As I'm sure you've seen by now our friends within the Kettering health system have been dealing with a unbelievable task, trying to provide top notch care to patients with little to no technical resources.

In spite of all the challenges, they continue to do the best with what they have, and are working hard to ensure our patients needs are met.

Today we dropped off a small token of appreciation to the staff at Soin ED to say "Thank you" on behalf of Local 2857. To all the staff, hang in there and we support you!

Today crews trained on fire attack and officer development during a live fire training on Dayton-Xenia Rd. This training house has been used for the past few years for countless hours of training, and as part of these last few rounds of live fire it will ultimately be burned to the ground for demolition.
