Did you know Michigan has a rich history of fighting for liberty? From the defiant spirit of the Prohibition-era rum runners on the Detroit River to the landmark legal battles for property rights, the Great Lakes State has long been a hotbed of libertarian ideals.

Remember the Poletown case? It was a wake-up call about eminent domain abuse. But thanks to the Michigan Supreme Court's later decision in County of Wayne v. Hathcock, property rights were strengthened, setting a precedent for the nation.

And let's not forget the ongoing push for economic freedom through reforms to occupational licensing, making it easier for people to earn a living without unnecessary government hurdles. Even the "Free State of Superior" movement in the Upper Peninsula, while not successful, shows a deep-seated desire for local control and self-governance.

These are just a few examples of Michigan's strong libertarian streak. It's a legacy of individualism, skepticism of government overreach, and a relentless pursuit of freedom.

Did you know Michigan used to be the country's top fighter against corporate welfare? Back in the mid-1800s, the state tried to build its own railroads and canals-and honestly, it was a mess. Millions of taxpayer dollars went down the drain thanks to crumbling tracks and useless canals.

Then Thomas Cooley stepped up. He was a Michigan Supreme Court Justice and a professor at UofM. He basically said, "Enough." Cooley pushed for the 1850 Constitution, which stopped the government from handing over public money to private companies. He argued that running railroads was really a private business, not something the state should handle.

Because Cooley and others drew a line in the sand, Michigan's private industries-lumber, furniture, and eventually the auto industry-took off. The state became an economic heavyweight. So, maybe it's time to tap into some of that old Cooley spirit back 😁

Millions of responsible adults use kratom for pain relief, energy, and recovery support.
Banning a natural plant doesn’t solve problems it pushes people toward more dangerous alternatives.
We need regulation and education, not prohibition.

Rep. Cam Cavitt is out here cheering for a kratom ban, yelling about a "crisis" and claiming he's "protecting our kids" from being "poisoned" and "dying." Honestly, he's just lying ass.

This whole thing isn't about kids. Kratom isn't taking over schools, and it's not killing children left and right. It's a plant that adults turn to for pain, anxiety, or to finally kick opioids after Big Pharma let them down. The so-called "deaths" Cavitt talks about? Nearly all come from contaminated products or people mixing it with dangerous stuff-not the pure kratom Michigan families trust. Kids aren't flocking to gas stations to buy it, either. Cavitt's scare tactics are just bogus.

Let's call this what it is: government overreach. Banning kratom wrecks small businesses, steals adult choice, and refuses to deal with real risks-all while pretending it's some heroic act to "save children." Protecting lives matters, but lying to grab control isn't the answer.

Cam Cavitt, hands off kratom. Michigan doesn't need another nanny-state ban.

Lawmakers took a step toward banning kratom on Wednesday.

Cam Cavitt is probably being lobbied by pharmaceutical companies, because his info is way off.

1. Kratom is not being used by a lot of kids. You have to be an adult to purchase it, and it is not sold at most gas stations. It is mostly sold at stores where you have to be an adult to enter.

2. It is a MUCH safer alternative to pills, so the pharmaceutical companies lose a lot of money to it.

3. Very very few people die from kratom, and the ones that do usually do because they use it with alcohol or pills which together destroys your liver. But many more people die from alcohol by itself than kratom by itself.

4. It is an adult's responsibility to make that choice for themselves. Why do they feel the need to go after everything fun? Because it cuts into their profits.

It's not about the kids. That's a flat out lie. It's not really a question of safety because it's way safer than pills or alcohol. No. It cuts into their donors profits.

F**k Cam Cavitt and the rest of the politicians like him. They're all the same, Red or Blue. ONLY libertarians believe in your freedom to live your life. Only libertarians still believe in the traditional American ideals of freedom for all.

The Michigan House passed a bill Wednesday to ban the sale of kratom entirely statewide.

Plenty of people fear the government. Psychology Today's article, "Government Paranoia: A Stereotype or Hallmark?" tries to sort out when that fear crosses into clinical paranoia, and when it's simply rational caution. For libertarians, drawing that line matters a lot. Being skeptical of government power isn't just some personal hang-up; it's basically a cornerstone of keeping individual freedom safe.

The article points out that people often see government as this massive force that could easily become threatening. Libertarians agree, but take it a step further. In their eyes, government is unique-it has a monopoly on force, and it can step on your rights through taxes, strict rules, constant surveillance, you name it. So, worrying about government taking things too far? That's not some irrational fear. It's a sensible reaction, given what governments have done throughout history.

The article brings up "poor me" paranoia (feeling targeted by a powerful group) and "bad me" paranoia (more about low self-esteem).

When people feel like the government's out to get them, that feeling often comes from real experiences. People push back when the government oversteps the boundaries of protecting their rights.

Libertarians see staying alert to government overreach as something citizens should do(not a disorder to fix). When people's concerns come from wanting to protect freedom and questioning authority, that wariness doesn't just make sense.

It's essential for keeping the government in check and holding onto individual rights.

Is the fear of the government a real representation of mental illness or a stereotype?

There is something satisfying about watching people finally lose faith in the system that has been lying to them, humiliating them, and using them as disposable inputs for years.

Unfortunately, most of them will just move on to the next savior, swapping one name for another while keeping the same dependency intact.

They were never taught to trust their own judgment, only to outsource it to whoever speaks with enough certainty and promises relief from the chaos. So the cycle resets.

Disillusionment turns into a brief vacuum, then a new figure steps in to absorb the frustration, redirect it, and consolidate it back into the same structures that caused it. That is why these moments feel hollow.

The belief collapses, but the habit survives. Until people stop searching for someone to rule correctly on their behalf, they will endlessly trade one illusion for another.
