Emigrants of the California Trail describe the rocks here in vivid detail as "a city of tall spires,” “steeple rocks," and "the silent city." Today, this backcountry byway attracts rock climbers, campers, hikers, hunters, and those with the spirit of adventure. There's inspirational scenery, exceptional opportunities for geologic study, and remnants of the Old West awaiting your discovery.

⚠Attention guests!⚠

Due to the fire in the area, the road from Logger Springs to Almo Park is currently closed. At this time, the fire is not posing a threat to the City of Rocks National Reserve, which will remain open to the public.

We would still love to see you out here enjoying everything the park has to offer, whether that's camping, climbing, horseback riding or simply taking in the scenery!

Thank you for your understanding, and we hope to see you soon. Stay safe and travel carefully!

Happy Memorial Day Weekend from the City of Rocks!
We’re excited to welcome everyone visiting this weekend! Before you arrive, here are a few important reminders to help keep the parks safe, enjoyable, and beautiful for everyone.
1.Vehicle Limits Per Campsite
Please check the yellow chart below for the maximum number of vehicles allowed at each campsite. Also be sure to check that the size of your vehicle will fit in your campsite. If you have extra vehicles, overflow parking permits are available at the Visitor Center for the overflow lot in Castle Rocks State Park. Additional vehicles may also be parked on nearby BLM land.
2.Please Keep Dogs Safe & Leashed
Off-leashed dogs can face many hazards in the park, including predators, ticks, cactus, rough terrain, and sometimes even other dogs. We would hate for anyone to lose a pet and have their trip ruined. Please also remember to pick up after your dog, pet waste does not fertilize the park, and nobody wants an unexpected surprise ruining their trip…or their shoes.
3.Do Not Park on Vegetation
There is plenty of parking available throughout the parks. The overflow parking lot in the Castle Rocks State Park is the only area where parking on vegetation is permitted. Please avoid parking there if there are other parking spaces available. If parking areas in the City of Rocks are full, roadside parking is allowed at your own risk. Please do not block the road for other vehicles coming through and do not park on the vegetation.
Thank you for helping us protect these amazing parks while making the weekend enjoyable for everyone. Have a fun and safe Memorial Day Weekend!

Wildfire Prevention Notice!

City of Rocks National Reserve will begin fuel reduction work focused on removing dead and dying trees now through the summer season.

Also, at nearby Castle Rocks State Park, spring fuel reduction work is underway now through May 10th. Staff at Castle Rocks State Park will be conducting prescribed burns as part of ongoing land management efforts.

These efforts help:
• Reduce excess vegetation (fuel) that can feed large wildfires
• Protect surrounding communities, natural & cultural resources, and park infrastructure
• Improve habitat for wildlife
• Promote healthier, more resilient ecosystems

You may see smoke near Castle Rocks or notice crews working in both areas — this is expected and closely monitored by trained professionals.

Want to learn more about why prescribed fire and fuel treatments are critical for wildfire prevention?
• National Park Service – Fire Effects & Prescribed Fire: nps.gov/subjects/fire/fire-in-depth.htm
• U.S. Forest Service – Fuel Treatments & Wildfire Risk Reduction: fs.usda.gov/managing-land/fire/fuels
• National Interagency Fire Center – Fuels Management: nifc.gov/fire-information/fuels-management

Thank you for your support as we work to prepare for what could be an active wildfire season and to keep these incredible landscapes healthy for years to come.
