The library's offerings just got an upgrade--we are excited to officially announce the launch of our Library of Things! This type of non-traditional collection has been gaining popularity at other libraries across the nation and contains items for hobbies, recreation, DIY projects, and more. This will provide the community with multiple benefits such as helping you save money, reduce clutter, and prevent waste by being able to try out a hobby before committing or borrow a specific tool for that one project you've been meaning to tackle.

Our ghost hunting kit has garnered lots of positive feedback and interest since being graciously donated by our Friends of the Alma Public Library to kick-start this collection. Since then, we have added an electric drill, cake pans, a metal detector, karaoke machine, stud finder, and an I-beam level. We hope that these items can bring utility and enjoyment to the community!

We hope to keep expanding this collection in the future to fill your needs. Getting feedback directly from the community will help us know what to prioritize! Please visit the library to check out our new items and fill out a survey either in-person or by following this link: https://forms.gle/FN7kZ8He1Eowvgdz9

Thank you for your continued support of the library!

The Friends of the Alma Public Library have teamed up with Misty Oebel from MSU Extension to bring you a six-lesson series called Mindfulness Pebbles right here at the Alma Public Library! Each lesson will be held on the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 pm starting June 4th and will focus on the core principles of mindfulness through the lens of "mindfulness pebbles". These mindfulness pebbles are viewed as small, intentional drops of awareness that can create meaningful ripples through daily life. These classes are designed for all experience levels and can be adapted for your comfort and ability level--they're also free!

Each lesson will focus on a core principle of mindfulness and will provide opportunities to put them into practice.
The session topics each month are as follows:

Session 1 focuses on the basics and teaches foundational practices to start off our mindfulness journey!

Session 2 moves to mindful breathing and focuses on breathing techniques and observations.

Session 3 focuses on body sensations and techniques to recognize connections within our bodies.

Session 4 takes us inward to focus on our thoughts with a highlight on reframing, decentering, and observing our thought patterns.

Session 5 will help us learn how to notice, name, and make space for our emotions.

Session 6 will wrap things up and give us tools to continue practicing mindfulness in our daily life!

These classes are taught by Misty Oebel, a Health and Farm Stress Education for MSU Extension and are hosted by the Friends of the Alma Public Library. Each class will be held at the Alma Public Library on the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 pm starting June 4th! Classes are free to attend without registration. We hope to see you there!
