🦅🌎 Raptor Hallow: Birds of the World Free Flight Bird Program

📍 Ford Nature Center Education Building Classroom A (upstairs) and Classroom B (downstairs)

Ford Nature Center welcomes the birds of Raptor Hallow to Mill Creek MetroParks! Birds live on every continent on Earth, from tropical rainforests to the frigid temperatures of Antarctica. In this exciting program, audiences will discover the incredible diversity of birds from around the globe. Guests will meet five bird ambassadors up close while learning about their unique adaptations, anatomy, natural history, and fun facts that help them survive in very different environments.

Congratulations to our unrestricted grant winners: Raptor Hallow Sanctuary, the Alliance YWCA, and Refuge of Hope Ministries! 🎉

These nonprofit organizations had members in attendance at our Non-Profit Leadership and Compliance Workshop last month hosted by the Greater Alliance Foundation and the University of Mount Union's Regula Center. Attendees were entered into our drawing for unrestricted grants. These are the lucky winners! ⭐️

Our workshop was a huge success, and we can't wait to host you all again. Save the date for our next workshop -- November 2nd! 📅

We are looking forward to seeing these grants in action out in our community!

🧙‍♀️✨ Make a little magic this September at Wizards in the Woods! ✨🧙‍♂️

Looking for a fun family weekend before spooky season officially begins? Come spend the day wandering through the woods, meeting our wildlife ambassadors, and stepping into a little bit of wizarding magic! 🌲🦉

Join us September 19–20 from 10 AM–5 PM for a weekend full of family-friendly fun, including free flight shows, crafts, games, magical activities, and plenty of opportunities to explore Raptor Hallow.

It’s the perfect way to kick off the fall season, get the kids excited for all things spooky, and enjoy one of those last warm weekends in the woods before autumn really sets in. 🍂🎃

Grab your favorite little witches and wizards and come make some memories with us!

⚖️🦉 LET’S TALK ABOUT WEIGHT! 🦎⚖️
Ever look at one of our birds and think, “There’s NO WAY that bird weighs that little!”? 😂
Well… birds are full of surprises!
We weigh our animals regularly and consistently to make sure they’re maintaining healthy weights and to help us keep an eye on their overall health. 🩺💚
And here’s the fun part: birds are often WAY lighter than you’d expect! 🪶 Many birds have specialized, lightweight skeletal structures and other adaptations that help keep their bodies suited for flight. ✈️🦅
That means a bird that LOOKS pretty substantial can step on the scale and leave you thinking… “THAT’S IT?!?” 😂
Meanwhile, our reptiles are a completely different story! 🐍🦎 They may look much smaller than some of our birds, but they can weigh surprisingly more because their bodies are much denser.
So, in the animal world, size can be VERY deceiving! 👀
