Thank you to ECU Health CEO Dr. Michael Waldrum for representing the health system in his testimony today before the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means on rural health care access and affordability. During his time on Capitol Hill, Dr. Waldrum urged federal policymakers to pursue targeted solutions that address rising health care costs and protect access to care for America’s rural communities.

“I am deeply appreciative of the opportunity to testify before the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means to highlight the important, mission-driven work we do here at ECU Health, as well as the challenges we face as a rural safety net health system,” said Dr. Waldrum. “Access to affordable, high quality care should not depend on where someone lives. The challenges facing rural health systems are real and structural, and they require solutions that recognize the unique realities of rural communities.”

Republicans keep saying “just use your Real ID” to meet the SAVE Act’s proof of citizenship requirement, but that’s only true in 5 states(only for enhanced Real ID). The bill only accepts a Real ID if it explicitly indicates U.S. citizenship. The problem is that standard Real IDs don’t show citizenship at all noncitizens can get one too. Only 5 states issue IDs that actually comply with the bill’s requirement. For the other 45, you’d need a U.S. passport, a military ID with service records, or a photo ID paired with a birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or similar document all presented in person. Don’t let them gaslight you. For most Americans, your Real ID (the one the government forced you to get) gets you through airport security. That’s it. Please help us spread the truth!
