BANK ROBBERY: Alliance Police arrested Jauan L. Mason, age 42, of 122 College St, Alliance today after he robbed the Huntington Bank at W State St at approximately 9:20 am this morning. Mason allegedly entered the bank and indicated he had a weapon, demanding cash. He escaped the building with approximately $400 in one-dollar bills and fled on foot eastbound on W State St. Alliance Police Officers flooded the area and Ptl. This marks the first bank robbery in Alliance since 2010, which was also solved. There have been no unsolved bank robberies in Alliance post 2000. POLICE RAID: At around 1 AM on Saturday night, the Alliance Police Department and Special Response Team executed a search warrant at a suspected illegal after-hours "bar" located at 40 N Park Ave, Alliance. The raid followed numerous tips and complaints about the location. Officers found that the establishment had been furnishing alcohol without a liquor permit and operating well past legal hours—sometimes until 5 AM over the course of approximately a month that it had been operating. Reports also complained of drug activity, fights, loud noise, underage drinking, weapons offenses and DUI/OVI offenses.
During the raid, officers removed approximately 50 people from the premises and seized a large amount of alcohol. A total of 12 firearms—including semi-automatic pistols, AR-15s, and a semi-automatic shotgun—were recovered, many of them hidden under benches, behind the bar, and inside trash cans. 4 individuals were arrested on charges ranging from outstanding arrest warrants and drug possession to operating an illegal liquor operation. The building, formerly Shaffers’ Diner, was discovered to be in poor and an unsafe condition, with the only power from gasoline generators powering lights and televisions on extension cords and extensive structural damage to the ceiling.

The Alliance Police Department thanks everyone who shared information involving this investigation. If you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood, report it — together, we’re keeping Alliance safe. https://www.alliancepolice.com/tip-form

PURSUIT: On 10.16.25, what began as a routine Domestic Violence incident turned into a high-speed chase through the streets of Alliance — ending in a devastating crash that injured an innocent motorist.
Around 6:44 PM, officers were dispatched to Milner Street after receiving reports that Koty Claypool, age 29, had threatened to attack his pregnant girlfriend. When officers attempted to stop Claypool’s blue Hyundai hatchback, he refused to comply — speeding through multiple stop signs and red lights, reaching speeds over 90 mph as he tore through residential neighborhoods.
The pursuit weaved through S. Morgan Avenue, Auld Street, and S. Mahoning Avenue, with officers warning dispatch that the suspect had previously vowed to ram police cars and shoot up the police department with a .380 pistol.
The chase ended tragically at the intersection of E. Simpson Street and S. Freedom Avenue, where Claypool’s vehicle collided with another car, injuring an innocent driver and passenger. Officers quickly moved in, taking Claypool into custody at gunpoint. He suffered severe head injuries and was transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital for treatment.
During a search of his vehicle and clothing, officers discovered methamphetamine, suboxone, and a glass methamphetamine pipe. Claypool now faces a long list of charges, including: Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Failure to Comply with a Police Order and Reckless Operation.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly reckless decisions can endanger innocent lives. Our thoughts are with the victim of this senseless crash and their loved ones.

LETTER OF COMMENDATION:
Dear Detective Johnson,
It is my distinct honor to commend you for your exceptional investigative work in connection with the Aggravated Home Invasion Robbery that occurred on December 7, 2024, in the 2300 blk of South Linden Avenue in Alliance, Ohio. The elderly victims were confronted in their home by a man posing as an Amazon delivery driver who brandished a firearm and robbed them of thousands of dollars before fleeing the scene. From the outset, this case presented numerous challenges, with few leads and limited physical evidence. It is clear that the successful resolution of this investigation was the direct result of your professionalism, perseverance, and investigative skill.
Through your meticulous handling of evidence and careful scene examination, you identified a key piece of forensic evidence — a beer bottle left behind by the suspect. Your decision to collect and preserve that item ultimately proved pivotal to the case. You coordinated extensively with State and other law enforcement agencies in neighboring jurisdictions to ensure every potential lead was pursued and every avenue of inquiry explored, even when it seemed more than enough evidence had been obtained.
Your persistence paid off when, in February 2025, the Ohio BCI identified a CODIS DNA match linking the evidence from the crime scene to Steven S. Dackiewicz, a repeat violent offender. You immediately obtained arrest and search warrants, led a multi-jurisdictional operation to locate and apprehend Dackiewicz in Cleveland, Ohio, and conducted thorough interviews that revealed numerous incriminating statements.
Because of your exhaustive and methodical work, the suspect was successfully tried before a jury, convicted, and sentenced to twenty-seven to thirty-two and a half years in prison. Your investigative diligence not only solved a violent and complex case that would surely have remained unsolved given the offender was not a local resident, but also restored a sense of justice and safety to the victims and the community.
Your unwavering commitment to duty and your relentless pursuit of the truth exemplify the highest standards of the Alliance Police Department. You have brought great credit to yourself, to the Detective Bureau, and to this agency as a whole. It is with great pride that I extend this official commendation for your outstanding service, exceptional investigative achievement, and exemplary dedication to justice.

RESERVE POLICE OFFICERS POSITIONS: Yesterday we handled a vehicle crash into a pole on S Union Ave by the park. Many times we have calls like this where we need to shut down a roadway or direct traffic for hours when electric poles or trees are down in the roadways. This ties up one of the few police officers on duty for hours. Reserve Police Officers assist in these situations and at special events like the Carnation Festival, downtown events and sporting events to augment or replace sworn police officers. If you are interested in applying for a Reserve Police Officer position, please contact Lt. Matthew Shatzer at [email protected]. We will train you. You do not have to be a certified police officer.
