May 10, 1943 - LODD
Fireman William Baum, 41
Allentown Fire Department. Allentown, PA
Fireman Baum died after being severely burned over most of his body when a 60 gallon gasoline tank exploded while fighting a fire in a truck. Five other firemen were also injured by the explosion. The fire originated in a truck parked in front of 530 Turner Street. The gas tank on the left side of the vehicle exploded from the heat, setting on fire the three story building at that same address.

Come on out to the Spring Melt this Sunday, April 19th. Early buyer hours 7am-9am. Regular show hours 9am-2pm. AFHG booth will be along the North wall of the AgriPlex

There may also be some AFD Engine 4 and E9 patches/decals available for purchase.

We will also have some misc fire memorabalia for sale. All proceeds from memorabalia will go to the AFHG.

Assistant Chief Marcus Good, 67

Assistant Chief Good died after suffering the effects of smoke inhalation while operating at a fire in the Rialto Theater building fire. He, along with others were pulling carpet up in the lobby of the theater so that they would be able to cut a hole in the floor to get to a basement area that was occupied by fire. The floor had given way and collapsed sending Assistant Chief Good into the basement. A rope was thrown down to him in an effort to rescue him, but the rope broke. After Assistant Chief Good was located and rescued, he was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Several other firemen also were hurled into the basement, but were able to be rescued. The Rialto Theater occupied the same site as the Lyceum Theater, which was destroyed by fire May 13, 1916.
