Sixth Street Shelter assists families experiencing homelessness secure safe affordable housing

Located in Center City Allentown, Sixth Street Shelter provides safe, short-term housing for families of any configuration (including those with fathers and teenaged boys, multi-generational families, and those from the LGBTQ+ community) experiencing homelessness. The property has 25 private apartments, a Family Resource Center, playground, and full-choice food pantry for residents. Our 18-to 24-m

onth transitional housing programs in Allentown and Easton make it possible for parents to pursue educational or vocational training while working towards self-sufficiency for themselves and their children. We believe that education and job training play an important and valuable role in helping families thrive while also ending the cycle of generational poverty. Sixth Street Shelter is a program of Community Action Lehigh Valley.

We were so honored to welcome the First Presbyterian Church of Allentown, PA's knitting club today! 🧶

After donating proceeds from their recent blanket sales, they had the chance to see how their generosity is making an impact.

The visit was made even more special by Ms. Emma (front center), who was there in 1984 when the shelter established its first building, and returned today to see how that work continues. 💛

✨ What an amazing volunteer crew! ✨

A team from Liberty Mutual Insurance rolled up their sleeves and worked hard yesterday as part of their employee volunteer day. They cleaned apartments to prepare them for incoming families, sorted donations, organized closets, and even assembled new shelving.

We are so grateful for this incredible group. Volunteers mean so much to us at Sixth Street Shelter, and we truly appreciate everyone who gave their time to support our mission. Thank you! 💙
