Today, the Detroit Lions honored first responders during the pregame ceremony at Ford Field, and we were incredibly proud to see members of the Allen Park Fire Department among those recognized.

Chief O’Riley, Deputy Chief Taylor, and Captain schook represented our department as they joined fellow first responders from across the region in this special recognition.

This honor carries even more meaning as we remember the 25th anniversary of September 11 and the countless first responders who answered the call that day, as well as those who continue to serve their communities every day.

We are grateful to the Detroit Lions for recognizing the dedication and sacrifice of first responders, and for making our members a part of such a meaningful day.

Earlier this week, the Lions also visited our firehouse as part of their 9/11 first-responder recognition. We were honored to welcome them to Allen Park. 🩵🚒

DID YOU KNOW? 👀🛞

Allen Park is home to one of Michigan’s most iconic roadside landmarks, the Giant Uniroyal Tire!

The tire was originally built in 1964 as a Ferris wheel for the New York World’s Fair before making its way to Allen Park in 1966.

It was reassembled along I-94, where it has been standing tall ever since.

At 80 feet tall and weighing 12 tons, this Allen Park landmark is hard to miss!

And in 2026, we’re celebrating 60 years of the Giant Tire calling Allen Park home. 🎉

Pretty cool piece of Allen Park history, right? 🛞

ALLEN PARK DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SERVICES
STORM DAMAGE UPDATE 9.4.26

Our crews continue to work throughout the City to address storm-related issues.

Our crews will be working throughout the weekend to clear debris from City trees with priority to hazardous areas and blocked roadways. It may take more time to get to less urgent areas. We appreciate your patience throughout this period.

For private property tree branches and limbs, please follow the requirements set forth by Priority Waste “Brush must be bundled no larger than 18 inches in diameter and four feet long. One individual item cannot be more than three inches in diameter”.

Should you fall outside of Priority Waste’s residential pickup specifications for your trees and brush, you may need to take them to a disposal facility or hire a private company to remove your items.

Our Department of Public Services can also provide a brush removal estimate for items that fall outside of Priority Waste’s services (see link provided)

NOTE: Priority Waste will be delayed one pickup day next week in observance of Labor Day on Monday, September 7th.

CITY OF ALLEN PARK DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SERVICES (DPS) CREWS ARE RESPONDING TO STORM DAMAGE

Allen Park DPS crews are actively responding to damages from today’s significant weather event.

Our immediate priority is to open blocked roadways, maintain access for emergency vehicles, and address hazards that present the greatest immediate risk to public safety. Crews are working throughout the community and will continue moving through affected areas.

We know there are numerous downed trees, limbs, and other storm-related issues throughout the City. Please understand that lower-priority cleanup may take additional time as crews first focus on roadway access and immediate hazards.

Residents are asked to use caution around downed trees, branches, and utility lines, and to give crews adequate room to work safely.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as our crews work to make the community safe and accessible.
