Looking for a fun and educational summer opportunity for local students?

NC State Paper Science & Engineering will be hosting a FREE 3-day summer camp, Earth-Wise: Resources for the Future, right here in the Alleghany Highlands!

Students will explore natural resources through hands-on activities, including paper making, an egg-drop competition, waste and water treatment demonstrations, and more.

📍 Alleghany Highlands Industrial Heritage & Technology Discovery Center
📅 June 30 – July 2
⏰ 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM daily
👥 Open to rising 8th–12th graders
⚠️ Limited to 15 students — first come, first served!

This is a great opportunity for students interested in science, engineering, sustainability, and hands-on learning experiences.

The VA250 Quilt Exhibit by Local Quilters has captivated visitors with the beauty, creativity, and exceptional craftsmanship showcased by the 40 quilts currently on display at the Theatre. The exhibit has been open during regular Theatre hours as well as several special evening viewings, and the response from the community has been wonderful.

If you have not yet had the opportunity to experience this remarkable collection, we warmly invite you to join us for a special "Meet the Quilters" Reception on Tuesday, June 23, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the WestRock Community Room.

This gathering is our way of celebrating and thanking the talented local quilters who generously shared their artistry and stories with our community. Many of the quilters will be in attendance to talk about their quilting process and their inspiration.

We hope you will join us for this special evening of art, conversation, and community. Light refreshments will be served.

One of the best parts of hosting events like The Jackson River Scenic Trail Marathon is seeing our local business community come together to help create an unforgettable experience for participants. ❤️

This event would not be possible without the many businesses, organizations, and community partners who contributed their time, services, products, and expertise. From trophies & awards, shirts, and participant amenities to discounted river adventures and the countless behind-the-scenes efforts that helped prepare the trail, every contribution played a role in making race weekend a success.

The 510 runners and walkers who joined us this year experienced more than just a race. They experienced the hospitality, natural beauty, and community spirit that make the Alleghany Highlands such a special destination.
