August was hot, wet, and humid, just the way mosquitoes like it! With this continued hot, spotty rainy weather, we will continue to see mosquito breeding and increased adult mosquito populations. With weather patterns predicting large downpour rain events and humid conditions into September, it is important to remember to reduce mosquito breeding by removing mosquito habitat!

For your information:
The Beaver County Conservation District’s Mosquito-Borne Disease Control Program (BU 13579 ) will be conducting a truck-mounted, Ultra Low Volume (ULV) spray event on Monday, August 31, 2026, between 8:00 pm and 10:00 pm to decrease mosquito populations and reduce the risk of West Nile virus (WNV) transmission. In case of inclement weather, the rain date will be Tuesday, September 1st.

Area of focus will be Jenny Lane, Pappy Lane, Shadyrest Road, Old Furnace Road, and Fombell Road in Franklin Township.

The pesticide being applied is Aqua Duet and is designed to provide quick, effective control of adult mosquito populations. Aquaduet has a very low toxicity profile to mammals and has negligible impact on non-target insects and the environment. It will be released at 1 ounce per acre. The SDS sheet and label for Aqua Duet can be found on our website, www.beavercountyconservationdistrict.org along with the PEMA notification form.

We are excited to be hosting a fall Ag workshop hosted at Windy Ridge Dairy in October!!! While we are still working out the details of a speaker lineup, we want to get the word out to everyone to save the dates on your calendar. The topic covered will be Cover Crops and Soil Health. This is stacking up to be an informational day and we hope to see many farmers there. Stop by our booth in the #2 Commercial Building at Hookstown Fair to get copies of the flyer, provide your email for notifications on updated speaker lists, and to visit with our staff. We look forward to hearing from everyone this week.
