📢📢Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the request of Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), a statewide test of emergency alerting systems has occurred. As part of this drill, local jurisdictions across Texas, including counties and cities, are testing systems used to notify the public during emergencies. Depending on the jurisdiction you are in at the time of the test, you may receive a test alert on your mobile phone. The City and County have worked closely to participate in this drill by sending messages through our Be Alert Program, posting this message on our social media pages, ensuring messages are able to be sent out with our School Districts, and quiet testing our Outdoor Warning Sirens.

Because multiple jurisdictions are participating in this test, you may receive more than one test alert on your phone during the testing window or see messages like this on social media sites.

This is only a test. No emergency action is required.

Testing helps ensure emergency alert systems function properly and allows agencies to evaluate how alerts are delivered during real emergencies. However, it can be a good time to think about where you would go in a real emergency and practice your safety plans at this time, especially considering we are entering severe weather season.

Visit https://be-alert.info/ to sign up for alerts from the City or County.

Hurricane season is less than 100 days away. Now is the time to review your plans and make any necessary changes or purchases.

WEATHER NOTICE: Please follow your trusted weather reporting outlets for detailed information and be severe weather ready. A cold front is expected to move into South Texas this evening and stall. The front combined with an upper level disturbance and above normal moisture will bring scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms likely beginning this afternoon and continuing into Sunday. Some storms may become strong to severe with damaging winds and large hail being the primary threats. Heavy rainfall is also possible and may lead to localized flooding. What locations get the most rainfall depends on where the cold front stalls. Could see storms train over the same areas which could lead to flash flooding. The rainfall will be beneficial and dry soils should be able to hold a lot of rain.
