Flashback to a fun fad from the 1970s, when Pet Rocks were all the rage. We took some time to make a few of our own. Check them out!

Pick up your very own Pet Rock kit and create a one-of-a-kind rock friend to join our library display.

Good news, there’s still time to join the fun. Pet Rock kits are now available while supplies last. Return your creation to the library by September 10 to have it included in the display. One kit per child.

Pet Rocks will be on display in the Youth Services Department through the end of September.

Okay, Algonquin Area, how well do you remember Algonquin in the 1970s?

This September, we're celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Eastgate building and National Library Card Sign-Up Month!

Stop by either AAPLD location to test your knowledge with our 1970s Algonquin Area Local Trivia Contest. Get the correct answers, and you'll be entered into a drawing to win one of two prize baskets, one packed with retro 70s goodies and the other celebrating 2026!

Don't have a library card? B Sharp and get one! Your library card hits all the right notes.

Del DiscoLord, famous music mogul, was killed while holding the Birthday Bash of the decade. The funky disco lights swirled. The stage rotated to reveal a giant disco ball. Del was due to jump out at any moment. Groovy, baby! Only it wasn't groovy. Del was electrocuted inside the giant disco ball. A murderer had given him the shock of his life.

Ready to put on your best 70s outfit and help solve the mystery? Murder at Studio 115 (ages 18+) takes place at Eastgate on Friday, September 18, from 6–9 pm. Admission is $10 per person, including refreshments and a whole lot of fun! Register here: https://aapld.libnet.info/event/16648975

Pick up your trivia form at either AAPLD location and submit your answers by 5 pm on September 30 for your chance to win!
