After 28 years of dedicated service to the Algonquin community, Officer Paul Krystal officially retired yesterday.

Throughout his career, Officer Krystal served in numerous specialty assignments, mentored countless officers, and earned the respect of everyone who had the opportunity to work alongside him. As one colleague put it, “You knew you were going to have a good shift if PK was working with you.”

Thank you, Officer Krystal, for your service, leadership, and commitment to our community. Please join us in wishing him a happy, healthy, and well-deserved retirement.

We also extend our thanks to the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District and fellow Village staff who helped celebrate his official send-off.

🚲 Algonquin parents are stepping up, and it shows.

More and more families on our streets are checking their kids' e-bikes against Illinois law before letting them ride. They're asking the right question: Is this actually a low-speed e-bike, or an Out-of-Class Electric Vehicle that needs a license, title, and insurance?

Here's the quick test the smart parents are running:
✅ Working pedals + motor under 750 watts
✅ Class 1, 2, or 3 (cuts out at 20–28 mph)
✅ Class 3 riders are 16+
✅ Ridden where it's allowed - off-road on private property, NOT village roads, sidewalks, bike lanes, or paths

If your child's "electric dirt bike" tops 750 watts, runs on throttle only, or breaks 28 mph, it's not an e-bike under Illinois law; it's a motor vehicle.

So, make this week's promise: before your kid rides, you'll run the check. Comment "✅ I checked" below - the parents who say it out loud are the ones who follow through, and their kids notice. 💙
