🐾 Honoring K9 Kovu’s Legacy 🐾

After years of dedicated service to the citizens of Kossuth County, K9 Kovu is preparing for a well-earned retirement. Throughout his career, Kovu has been an invaluable member of our Sheriff’s Office team, helping protect our communities, assist in investigations, and stand beside his handler through countless hours of service.

As we celebrate Kovu’s remarkable career, we are also looking toward the future. We have begun fundraising efforts to purchase and train Kovu’s successor, ensuring that our K9 program continues to serve Kossuth County for years to come.

Your support will help fund:
🐕 Acquisition of a highly trained K9 partner
🎓 Specialized training for both the new K9 and handler
🦺 Essential K9 equipment and vehicle modifications
🏥 Veterinary care, certifications, and startup costs for the new K9 unit

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Eastern Emmet County in northwestern Iowa... Northwestern Kossuth County in north central Iowa... * Until 1130 AM CDT.

At 1106 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Okamanpedan State Park, or 12 miles southwest of Fairmont, moving southeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. *

Locations impacted include... Iowa Lake, Okamanpedan Lake, Swan Lake, Armstrong, Gruver, Dolliver, and Okamanpedan State Park.

This week we recognize and honor EMS Week and the incredible men and women who serve as Emergency Medical Services professionals.

EMS personnel are often the first to arrive in moments of crisis. They bring calm to chaos, provide life-saving care under pressure, and make critical decisions in seconds that can change lives forever. Their work requires skill, compassion, strength, and dedication—often in the most difficult and emotional situations.

We are grateful for their commitment to serving our communities, working alongside law enforcement, fire departments, and hospitals to ensure the best possible outcomes for those in need.

To all EMS professionals—paramedics, EMTs, and first responders—thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your unwavering dedication.

We appreciate you this week and always.

⚠️Lone Rock Area Volunteers Needed ⚠️

🚨 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – LONE ROCK CLEAN UP 🚨

We are currently requesting volunteers to assist with tree and debris cleanup in the Lone Rock area. We are hoping to gather 20+ volunteers to help our community recover and clean up storm damage.

📍 Check-In Location: Lone Rock Fire Station
🕒 Please check in upon arrival for assignments and safety information.

⚠️ Recommended Attire:
• Long pants
• Sturdy boots/work shoes
• Gloves
• Long sleeves recommended
• Safety glasses if available
• Dress appropriately for outdoor cleanup conditions

If you have chainsaws, trailers, rakes, or other cleanup tools available to bring, please let us know at check-in.
