🚲⚡ E-Bike Safety in Algona – Know the Rules Before You Ride! ⚡🚲

E-bikes are a great way to get around our community—but it’s important to understand how to ride them safely and legally.

The Algona Police Department has put together a quick guide to help you know:
✔ The difference between Class 1, 2, and 3 e-bikes
✔ Where each type is allowed to ride
✔ When a bike becomes a motor vehicle (and what that means)
✔ Key safety tips to protect yourself and others

⚠️ Not all “e-bikes” are treated the same under the law. Higher-speed or modified bikes may actually be considered motor vehicles and require licensing, registration, and insurance.

👮‍♂️ Our goal is simple: keep everyone safe—riders, pedestrians, and drivers alike.

Take a minute to review the graphic below and make sure you’re riding within the law.

If you have questions, reach out to the Algona Police Department—we’re here to help.

Ride safe. Ride smart. Ride Algona.

The Washington State Legislature recently passed a new Blue Envelope Program aimed at improving interactions between law enforcement and individuals with autism or other communication-related conditions.

This voluntary program allows drivers to keep their license, registration, and insurance inside a blue envelope, along with helpful information that gives officers a better understanding during a traffic stop. It’s a simple tool that helps slow things down, improve communication, and reduce the potential for misunderstandings.

Our A-Team is now trained and familiar with this program, ensuring our officers know what to look for and how to approach these encounters in a way that keeps everyone safe.

Programs like this are a great example of practical solutions that support both public safety and officer safety. It doesn’t change how we do our job—it helps us do it better.
