As we continue celebrating EMS Week, I want to take a moment to recognize another outstanding member of the Upper Scioto Valley Ambulance District team, Jessica Dunifon.

Jessica joined our department on September 23, 2025, as a part-time provider. In January, we were fortunate enough to convince her to take the plunge and become a full-time provider for our District. Since then, she has continued to demonstrate dedication, compassion, and an incredible work ethic both on and off duty.

Jessica is a devoted wife and mother of two beautiful girls — one here on earth and another with the most beautiful angel wings , watching over her family every day.

While working full-time in EMS, Jessica also continued pursuing her education online. She attended Terra State Community College from August 2021 through August 2022 before stepping away to earn her EMT certification and focus on her growing family. In May 2025, she returned to continue her education and graduated in May 2026 with an Associate of Individualized Studies in Pre-Mortuary Science.

Jessica graduated with a 3.7 GPA and earned both Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society recognition and Cum Laude honors. Her credits directly transfer into Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science as she continues working toward her future goals in mortuary science. In July 2026, Jessica will begin Advanced EMT school at Apollo.

Balancing family, full-time EMS work, and higher education is no small accomplishment. We are incredibly proud of Jessica and thankful to have her serving our community. Congratulations, Jessica, on this tremendous achievement!

As we celebrate EMS Week, we would like to congratulate our crew at Upper Scioto Valley Ambulance District for receiving the Lima Memorial Stroke of the Year Award.

FF/Paramedic Justin Roberts and EMT Ashlie Goodin responded to a call for a 54-year-old female who had become unresponsive and was experiencing shallow breathing. The crew was en route within one minute of dispatch and arrived on scene within 12 minutes in the southern part of our district. Through their quick assessment, rapid intervention, and teamwork, they were able to provide lifesaving care that ultimately saved the patient’s life.

Today, we are incredibly thankful that this patient is still with us, and we could not be more proud of the professionalism, dedication, and compassion shown by our crew.

Please join us in congratulating Justin and Ashlie on this well-deserved recognition.

🚑 Congratulations🚑

Congratulations to FF/AEMT Daniel Parisot and Heather Heilman on obtaining their Advanced EMT certification!

This certification requires up to an additional 250 hours of training through both classroom instruction and clinical experience.

Daniel and Heather proudly serve our District as part-time providers, and we are grateful for their continued dedication, hard work, and commitment to providing exceptional care to our community and the other communities in which they serve.

Congratulations, Daniel and Heather, on this outstanding accomplishment!

Today, Chief Helton joined many other Third Service EMS Chiefs from across the state to discuss the potential abolition of property taxes and its impact on Third Service EMS agencies. The group also discussed several legislative issues currently affecting EMS services statewide and the importance of ensuring communities continue to receive reliable emergency medical care.

These conversations are critical as we work together to advocate for the future of EMS and the residents we proudly serve every day.

Choosing a favorite won't be easy - We have 23 plows from schools in our nine-county district. The artists brought their A-game this year. Photos do not do them justice, so this summer, keep an eye out for them at your local parades and county fairs.

We now have equipment out at the new property moving dirt in preparation for our new station. The support we have received from the people of our District has made this possible. Our current station was not built to house people. The thought of full-time EMS, updated equipment, and a new station for us to have actual rooms to sleep in overnight and a shower to wash after the bad runs, and a kitchen to cook food in while on shift, all seemed to be a dream. We had no idea we would grow to what we are and we could never have done it without our communities. We are truly thankful beyond words. We are proud to serve our District. We are proud to be the Upper Scioto Valley Ambulance District. In the near future, we will be having a small groundbreaking ceremony and when the project is complete we will have a ribbon cutting.
