Congratulations to the Kubasaki High School MCJROTC Junior Leadership and Academic Bowl (JLAB) team on earning second place at the National Championship in Washington, D.C.

Competing against top programs from across the nation, cadets Lucas S., Oliver R., Ciara F. and Calvin S. demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, critical thinking, teamwork and resilience. After overcoming significant travel delays and arriving just hours before competition began, the team fought through the tournament to earn a place in the championship round and finish as national runners-up.

Their accomplishment reflects the dedication of the cadets, the support of their families, and the commitment of Kubasaki High School educators and program leaders to student excellence.

Military-connected students face unique challenges, from frequent moves to deployments and life transitions. Military and Family Life Counselors (MFLCs) play an important role in supporting students and families through those experiences.

At DoWEA, we value the partnerships that help our students stay , connected, and ready to learn. As we head into summer, remember that support is available for military families whenever it’s needed.

As begins, now is a great time for students and families to prepare for a successful start to the new school year.

The Department of War Education Activity is implementing updated expectations for personal electronic devices in schools. To support focused, engaging, and safe learning environments, students will be expected to keep personal devices—including phones, smartwatches, tablets, and similar electronics—silenced and stored during the school day.

Exceptions remain in place for medical needs, 504 plans, special education services, and approved instructional activities.

Families can help by discussing these expectations before the first day of school and reinforcing the importance of staying engaged in learning while at school. Thank you for partnering with us to create classrooms where every student can thrive.
