A BIG day in Lorton!! This morning we broke ground 🪏 on Overlook Ridge Park, a project that has been in the works for over a decade and is the highest point in Fairfax County. This 250-acre park will feature sweeping views of Northern Virginia and the Potomac River.

Big thanks to Fairfax County Park Authority, Waste Management, South County Federation, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, and the many other partners who helped us get to this point. I look forward to welcoming you all back for the ribbon cutting!

After 27 years of dedicated public service, Vance Zavela is officially retiring!

Vance has been an incredible friend and partner to our office in his role as the Fairfax County Department of Economic Initiatives’ Fort Belvoir Liaison. He has worked tirelessly to strengthen our relationship with Fort Belvoir, helped organize numerous career fairs for veterans, military spouses, and their families, and was always ready to lend a hand at our many community events.

We are incredibly grateful for Vance’s years of service, partnership, and friendship. He will be deeply missed!

And, of course, we’ll especially miss having him with us at this year’s Fort Belvoir Oktoberfest!

Congratulations on your retirement, Vance, and thank you for everything!

Give it up for the MVD August Community Champions! 👏🌟
In my latest Good News Advisor, I recognized Pastor Andy Casper, his wife Cindy, and the entire South County Church family for nearly two decades of service in Lorton and Mount Vernon. Whether they are grilling and serving thousands of hot dogs and hamburgers at community events or riding the Annual Tour de Mount Vernon Bike Ride and helping mark the route, they continue to step up, show up and give back.

On July 26, South County Church moved into its new home at Liberty Chapel, the former Lorton prison chapel at 8475 Reformatory Way.
