Thank you to the incredible crowd that joined us tonight at Mission Navy Yard. It isn’t every day that St. Patrick’s Day, the Illinois Election Primary, and the start of March Madness all collide on a single Tuesday—but the Illinois State Society of Washington, DC knows how to handle a busy calendar.

From watching the election returns to cheering on the first games of the tournament, it was a fantastic night of networking and hanging with an awesome group of Midwesterners.

The Illinois State Society of DC had the honor of laying a wreath this afternoon at Reagan National Airport (DCA) in honor of our 40th president. A wonderful annual tradition to celebrate an iconic leader from the Great State of Illinois. 💐

Congratulations to the Chicago Bears 🐻 on an incredible, historic victory! After an epic 18-point comeback at Soldier Field, the Bears defeated Green Bay 🧀 31–27 to advance to the Divisional Round.

Illinois in DC did the holidays right! 🎄✨ Last Tuesday, Dec 17, we hosted our Holiday Social and Annual Meeting with an incredible turnout.

Highlights included:
• A Distinguished Guest: We were honored to be joined by our Congressional Co-Chair, Representative Mike Bost .

• Cross-Generational Networking: A fantastic night to mix and mingle with Illinois congressional staff, business leaders, service members, and longtime members.

• Leadership: The election of our Board of Directors for the upcoming year! 🗳️

• A Living History: We were thrilled to have former State Senator Mark Rhoads in attendance. He spent the evening signing copies of his book, Land of Lincoln, Thy Wondrous Story, which were available for our guests to take home. 📖✍️

• Looking Ahead: A first look at the exciting lineup of events we have planned for 2026—it’s going to be a big year for the Illinois State Society! 🗓️🚀

From the South Side to the Vatican. Join us in celebrating this historic moment for Illinois and the world.

Big news with local roots—Robert Francis Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV, has been named the new head of the Roman Catholic Church!

Born in Dolton, raised in Chicago Heights and the Far South Side, Pope Leo XIV never forgot where he came from. He earned his Master of Divinity at Catholic Theological Union in Hyde Park and was known to neighbors simply as “Bob from Chicago.”

Before his global leadership in the Church, he taught at Mendel Catholic High School and Tolentine College in Olympia Fields. And even as he traveled the world, he kept strong ties to Illinois—voting absentee in Will County and staying close with family in New Lenox.

Oh, and one more thing... he's a loyal White Sox fan.
