Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys & Girls Club GREAT FUTURES START HERE. The Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys & Girls Club serves more than 500 kids e It’s all about the kids.

Founded in 1906, Boys & Girls Clubs of America is the nation’s fastest-growing youth service organization, serving millions of young people ages 6-18. The Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Branch has a legacy of positive youth development that dates back to 1936, when a group of Alexandria’s community leaders founded the original Alexandria Boys Club and developed the property on which the Club still stands. The story of the Alexandria Club mirrors that of Boys & Girls Clubs of America – caring men and women who saw a need to meet challenges, provide opportunity, and instill hope in the region’s youth. Today, the Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Branch of Boys & Girls Clubs serves over 500 members, but we touch many more young people through our programs and services.

Yesterday the Washington Mystics staff put on a basketball clinic at our Club that was open to all kids in our neighborhood and all kids got a Mystics T-shirt.
Later in the afternoon about 25 of our kids bussed to Baltimore where many of our kids saw their first NFL game as the Washington Commanders played the Baltimore Ravens. Talk about a sports oriented day!

Today our friends at Andy's Pizza treated us to a lot of pizza after school and this activity was followed by our first Fall bike ride to Mr. Tony's Tunnel and the Potomac River.

Today a dozen school teachers in waiting visited our Club and interacted with our bike program as they will assume full time positions this fall in Fairfax County as well as the City of Alexandria. They are a part of Teach for America's 2026 Corp. However they did lose their dodgeball match in the gym against the same Kids they assisted in bicycling!

Today the Master Gardeners assisted our kids in planting herbs in our garden. The kids also harvested potatoes which was treated like finding a treasure. Our gardeners have graciously agreed to continue their classes every Monday morning during our summer session at the Club!

This week members of the Alexandria Police Department visited our Club for some athletic competition against our kids in our gym. Our kids came in second in this spirited competition but a rematch will be in the future planning. This is the second time the City of Alexandria police department has stopped by the Club helping to bridge a positive relationship.

Starbucks hosted their tenth annual Volunteer Day at our Club today. Their team spruced up our gym and library/computer lab. They also took on several gardening projects as well as cleaning up our bike shed along with two volunteers from Velocity the bicycle coop in Del Ray.

Our Boys and Girls Club will be participating with the Alexandria Police Department.
