Founded in 1906, Boys & Girls Clubs of America is the nation’s fastest-growing youth service organization, serving millions of young people ages 6-18. The Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Branch has a legacy of positive youth development that dates back to 1936, when a group of Alexandria’s community leaders founded the original Alexandria Boys Club and developed the property on which the Club still stan

The story of the Alexandria Club mirrors that of Boys & Girls Clubs of America – caring men and women who saw a need to meet challenges, provide opportunity, and instill hope in the region’s youth. Today, the Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Branch of Boys & Girls Clubs serves over 500 members, but we touch many more young people through our programs and services.

This week members of the Alexandria Police Department visited our Club for some athletic competition against our kids in our gym. Our kids came in second in this spirited competition but a rematch will be in the future planning. This is the second time the City of Alexandria police department has stopped by the Club helping to bridge a positive relationship.

Starbucks hosted their tenth annual Volunteer Day at our Club today. Their team spruced up our gym and library/computer lab. They also took on several gardening projects as well as cleaning up our bike shed along with two volunteers from Velocity the bicycle coop in Del Ray.

Our Boys and Girls Club will be participating with the Alexandria Police Department.

On Saturday several of our KIDS rode bikes in the annual St. Patrick's Day parade. We were a part of the Alexandria Bike Buses float and a good time was had by all! Andy's Pizza in Old Town treated us to lunch at the conclusion of the Parade.

Our own Brody Bivins' older brother Darius was named a McDonald's HS All American in basketball. The McDonald's restaurant at121 North Glebe in Alexandria will be holding a fundraiser on Thursday March 17 from 6:30 to 7:30pm with food proceeds going to our Boys and Girls Club! Our own Tanayah made it to the finals of the Boys and Girls Club Great Big Kid Event which was held last night at Amazon HDQTRS in Crystal City. This program prepares Club Kids to build meaningful, supportive relationships that foster academic growth, personal confidence and leadership development.
