Subject: Snow/Ice Storm Recovery Efforts
Message:
Dear WP Residents,
As our community continues to recover from the crippling snow/ice storm on JAN 25 & 26, we continue our efforts to assist the community in the best possible manner, while focusing on priorities to enable a successful relief effort.
As every resident has been impacted, please note the following initiatives:
1. Massive snow has impacted parked vehicles (snowed/iced them in): Snow shovels aren't very impactful removing the ice and many residents have had to resort to stronger metal shovels and other heavy-duty tools to remove the ice.
*The challenge here is plowed snow and massive snow/ice buildup between parking spaces.*
We ask that when you shovel your way out; please be mindful that snow should be moved to areas that don't impede the street and/or sidewalks. This enables the clean up effort to continue in our walking and driving areas.
2. Corners & school bus stops: Many, if not all of these areas are covered with massive amounts of snow/ice. Efforts are being discussed to remove the snow/ice, but there must be clearance where it will be moved to. Discussions are on-going for this effort.
3. Sidewalks: It is every resident's responsibility to clear the sidewalk in front of their residence (Windsor Park HOA Guidelines and Alexandria/Fairfax County ordinances state and support this).
*This will enable a walking path for students to walk to their bus stop(s).*
As challenging as this may be, we ask that all residents come together to make a valiant effort to clear the sidewalk in front of your residence.
4. Towing: Towing has been suspended during this recovery period for various reasons. While homeowners and residents are still allowed to contact Dominion to remove cars from their numbered spaces, risk management is assessed for safety and liability is considered to avoid damaging adjacent vehicles and property. Current conditions require a grace period to allow vehicles to be moved safely.
*We realize that it is frustrating to clear your parking space, only for someone to come park in it when you leave. In these instances, we ask that you please try to reach out to the offending neighbor or owner of the vehicle first to allow them to move their vehicle.*
Helpful Notes:
a. Yes, in this freezing climate that has not relented; water pipes are known to freeze. Please consider water trickles in your home to possibly mitigate a water pipe freezing. The most susceptible time for this to happen is when the temperatures start warming up, because the frozen pipe will leak at that time.
b. Community efforts: Consider partnering with your adjacent neighbors to clear areas and make your street safer for everyone.
c. Communication with your neighbors who may have trouble clearing their own area.
d. BEWARE of falling snow/ice from trees and your roof as it warms up & things start melting.
We appreciate everyone's patience and valiant efforts to recover from this massive snow/ice event and remain committed to doing what is best for our community.
Feel free to reach out with any concerns and/or suggestions for consideration.
Stay safe & stay warm,
Windsor Park Board
