Safe Places Transitional housing program for women and children homeless as a result of domestic violence. (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence).

Did you know that one of out of every four women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime? When families come to Safe Places they are fleeing abuse. They hope that with some help they can provide a safe and loving place for their children to live in a place free from violence. Safe Places is a 24-month transitional housing program serving families throughout Fairfax County, Virginia who

are homeless as a result of domestic violence. Program participants are involved in weekly or bi-weekly case management sessions, or home visits. These meetings focus on budgeting, permanent housing searches and the overall goal of obtaining self-sufficiency. All of the families are referred to the program through Fairfax County emergency shelters including, but not limited to, Bethany House of Northern Virginia and Shelter House’s Artemis House. Each head of household is required to work or attend school for at least 30 hours per week and their monthly rent is based on 30% of their income. With your help, Safe Places can provide support for mothers to:
•obtain a certificate or degree
•enroll in job training courses
•cover car repairs and transportation fees

Safe Places, a program of Christian Relief Services, Inc. which is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, is committed to providing Fairfax County families who are homeless due to domestic violence with safe, long-term transitional housing in order to empower them to break the cycle of abuse. During their time in the program, we assist clients by providing case management and social services in addition to providing safe and affordable housing. We work with clients to ensure that they are able to live independently following their successful completion in the program.
As you can imagine, due to the population that we serve, holidays are extremely difficult as most families are working to make ends meet. The holiday season can be a particularly hard time for the mothers in our program as they want to be able to provide their children with a memorable holiday. At the same time, they worry about spending their entire budget. This year, we are asking our neighbors to consider the families in Safe Places.

We are excited to announce a new partnership! Safe Places and Zen Press Juice are working together from October 1-20 in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
