This week, IACP presented a workshop at the 7th Annual National Co-Responder Conference in Dallas, Texas, on supporting human trafficking victims with substance use disorders.

The session, “First Surviving, Then Thriving: Co-response and Deflection for Human Trafficking Victims with Substance Use Disorders,” featured Sabrina Fernandez (IACP), Sergeant Tarik Muslimovic (Arlington Police Department) and Amanda Pettit (Rescue Hill), who shared their insights on using co-response and deflection to connect victims to care.

From trauma-informed engagement to survivor-centered program design, the conversation highlighted how partnerships between law enforcement, behavioral health professionals, and service providers can create safe, effective pathways to recovery.

In partnership with the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Interior (MOI), the IACP is pleased to announce the fifth iteration of the IACP/UAE MOI Police Academy Exchange Program. Through the program, a select number of international delegates will be enrolled in a five-month basic academy program at the Abu Dhabi Police College in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The program will be held from September 2026 to February 2027. The application deadline is Friday, July 17, 2026.

Participants selected for the program will participate in physical fitness, marching, practical exercises, and academic studies in a basic academy format.

The program is provided at no cost, and all expenses will be covered by the UAE MOI. Covered expenses include flights to and from the UAE, meals and lodging at the Abu Dhabi Police College, group transportation to and from the Abu Dhabi Police College, medical insurance with healthcare coverage in the UAE, academy supplies, and monthly stipends.

The program will culminate with a graduation ceremony in which each participant and their respective chief or agency representative will be invited to attend.
