Little York Fire Department

Little York Fire Department Little York Fire Dept is committed to protect and serve our community to minimize the loss of life and property.

Established in 1942 for the Little York community, The Little York Fire Dept was established by a group of volunteers who wished to protect their community. The original station was located near the intersection of what is now Airline and Little York. In the 70s Little York Fire Department absorbed the Rushwood Fire Department expanding our response area to the FM 1960 corridor. With the growth of

other fire departments along with the annexation of the city of Houston, LYFDs territory has downsized to what it is now. The Little York Fire Department is responsible for protecting the lives and properties of people within Emergency Service District #17. ESD #17 is a taxing district that is ran by elected officials and its sole purpose is to provide funding for fire protection within the territory (LYFDs response area). The department operates through three stations and its coverage area spans from Canino Rd to Richey Rd from Veterans Memorial to the Hardy Toll Road. In addition LYFD responds to calls outside of our immediate area due to mutual aid agreements with neighboring fire districts. The Little York Fire Department maintains a fleet of 2 First Out Rescue Pumpers,1 Ladder truck(quint), 1 Tanker Truck, 2 Reserve Trucks, 1 Booster truck, 4 command vehicles, a Rescue boat, Rehab and 1 utility truck. The Little York Fire Department is a combination paid/volunteer department which means we offer both paid and volunteer membership opportunities and are always accepting applications for volunteers. LYFD responds to emergency situations and provides a variety of medical and rescue services when the time arises. The Little York Fire Department offers patch trading options along with a variety of fire prevention and safety information and courses. At Little York Fire Department, we perform our jobs to the highest standards "So That Others May Live".

October is just around the corner which means Breast Cancer Awareness and Fire Safety month. Well this month we are going to focus on both of those things. Fire safety starts at home and with the safety and well being of our firefighters. Also Sept has a real powerful meaning to a lot of us. And as that day approaches may we remember the brave souls who gave all without a doubt or thought of their safety but only to serve. May we all take time to remember their sacrifice. Not only on the anniversary date but every time we do our jobs.We honor them by doing the best we can and returning home safe to all becoming old firefighter who can teach the new one how to become old firefighters. The big issue that needs to be of great importance is cancer awareness... We cant protect our communities if we don't protect ourselves. That is a form of fire safety. So we plan to share a bit of info and awareness this month. Stay safe and everyone come home. Mizpah brothers and sisters ( "Lord watch between me and thee while we are absent one from another" Genesis 31:49 )
