Just a reminder, we have a special going on this month. Please forward to the school staff you know!

The pedestrian crossing at the South end of the Memorial Bridge will not have asphalt between the tracks due to railroad construction starting Tuesday, September 15th. Please realize you are crossing at your own risk. This will be fixed by Wednesday, September 16th afternoon.

The people living on the North side of the tracks that use the Howell Street Crossing below the depot should plan to park in the FEMA lot by where the dog fountain is starting tomorrow until Wednesday afternoon if you need your vehicles out.

The Glen Ray Crossing won’t be torn out, but will have signal staff there to manually allow vehicle passage due to the crossbars being disabled during upper construction. THERE WILL BE NO ISSUES EXCEPT DELAYS FOR EQUIPMENT AND TRAINS WHEN THEY COME FOR GLEN RAY.

We have met with CSX and have emergency measures planned in the event of an issue that requires crossing the Howell Street Crossing during construction.

Today, a lot of “we will never forget 9-11-2001”photos and memories are being shared. Heroes came in all kinds on that day and the months to follow. It’s hard to imagine people standing together all over the world for America. But, they did.

Reflect back for just a few moments, it immediately became the time to put our flags out wherever we could get them. The time when we were proudly wearing flags on our uniforms and clothes. “In God we trust” came to our forefront and we all remembered our national motto and proudly displayed it.

Our flags on the memorial bridge are proudly displayed and our staff always put them up before the Fourth of July season, are left until after today for a reason, and mean so much more than just the Fourth of July. We are a proud and grateful nation.

Our memorial field was the first public memorial in the state; with the stone gates and plaques erected to honor veterans of world wars. Our VFW hold gatherings to honor our fallen, who gave their all to defend our freedoms. Heroes have been “the Gem of the Hills” and made “Alderson Proud!”

Think back to the days that followed the tragedies of 9-11-2001. We all had a sense of duty to protect and defend our freedoms and normals. We weren’t different politics, religions, or really anything except Americans.

Let’s all strive to be who we were on 9-11-2001 not only today, but during the tough times we face now. We are truly blessed and often overlook just how blessed we are.

“We will never forget!” Fly our flags, display our national motto, hug our neighbors, and do it all with that same pride.

Yours in Service,
Mayor Copenhaver
