We are looking for volunteers to place flags on the graves of our veterans at the cemetery in honor of their service and sacrifice.

This is a meaningful way to show respect and ensure those who served our country are remembered this Memorial Day season.

If you’ve walked through Helena Township Cemetery lately, you may have noticed bright pink flags placed among the headstones. Here’s what they mean.

Helena Township has contracted TriMedia Environmental & Engineering of Marquette to complete a full survey of the cemetery using drone imaging and LiDAR mapping. The pink flags mark survey reference points only — no graves, monuments, or plantings are being disturbed.

When this work is complete, Helena Township will have its first accurate, modern map of the cemetery grounds. This will allow us to locate plots with greater confidence, help answer family questions about loved ones’ resting places, and guide thoughtful long-term stewardship of this important community space.

We will share the results once the survey is finished.

If you have family records, photographs, or memories connected to Helena Township Cemetery that may help preserve its history, please contact the Clerk’s Office. Your knowledge and memories are an important part of our community’s story.
