In its heyday, the Santa Fe Super Chief was known as the Train of the Stars, transporting movie stars from Chicago to Los Angeles. New Mexico Heritage Rail has partnered with the Kosmos Restaurant to pay homage to that train and to celebrate the beginning of New Mexico Railroad Days 2026. Join us for dinner, a silent auction, and a meet and greet with AT&SF 2926 at The Kosmos Restaurant downtown on Friday, September 25. All proceeds go to benefit NMHR and NMRD.

Dinner is a world-famous Kosmos Burger and Sputnik fries, with all the fixin’s, a soft drink, and a brownie dessert included. There will also be a cash bar with b**r, w**e, and Kosmos’ fabulous cocktails. Attire for dinner service is dressy casual--dress up for photos with AT&SF 2926, taken by one of our photographers, and take home a souvenir image!

The turntable has received its first coat of paint in decades! The first coat of primer was applied to the blasted section of the table, while the rest of the table is being blasted and painted.

Sandblasting has begun on the Albuquerque Turntable! For the past three weeks, the Next Generation Rail crew has been hard at work sandblasting the table to get it ready for paint.

It's not often you get to see writing nearly a century old on railroad equipment, but the turntable is full of it! In the 1930s, the turntable was lengthened to meet the demand of larger locomotives being put into operation on the Santa Fe Railroad. When the table was lengthened, the crew wrote instructions on where the rivets and girders should go. Those writings, made nearly 100 years ago, are still there! Echoes of an era long gone, preserved by the New Mexico desert air.
