Albuquerque is already synonymous with the roadrunner—its status as the State Bird exemplifies its innately New Mexican roots. The roadrunner pictured was spotted in the Near Heights Community Planning Area (CPA). According to the New Mexico Secretary of State’s Office, early settlers believed that roadrunners lead lost travelers to their destination. Nowadays, roadrunners are found sightseeing throughout the city.
