SWNAVA strives to assist the families of Native American Veterans. Assistance with be given in obtaining veterans rights, entitlements, and benefits without regards to branch of Armed Forces or combat status of the veteran. SWNAVA will strive to assist Native American communities in maintaining a strong educational base by providing a resource center for information on Native American veterans, veterans issues, and veterans rights, which can be used to augment current tribal and state programs.

Congrats to Joane Mathews, who is now serving as Wisconsin's first female general officer in the National Guard. She was a maintenance test pilot in Germany and a flight instructor at Fort Rucker. Mathews also served in the no-fly zone of northern Iraq as part of Operation Provide Comfort, which helped protect Kurdish refugees after .

Joane Mathews has many firsts in her combined active duty and National Guard military career.
