Empowering Native Youth Leaders Across New Mexico
For 15 years, the Native Youth Summit (NYS) has brought together young Indigenous leaders from across New Mexico to connect, learn, and strengthen their voices in creating safer and healthier communities.

This year, the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVANW) is honored to host the 15th Annual Native Youth Summit, a 3-day leadership development experience for Native youth ages 13–17.

Taking place Tuesday, July 14 through Thursday, July 16, 2026, in Farmington, New Mexico, NYS creates an intentional space where Native youth can build friendships, explore leadership, connect with culture, and recognize the strength they already carry.

This day marks an annual commemoration honoring traditions and culture that have been passed through many generations.

Mothers, grandmothers, aunties, and sisters begin to gather and prepare to feed those who visit. Youth and children listen to the beat and watch the movements from their siblings, cousins, and friends as they practice throughout the day. Fathers, uncles, and grandfathers sing the songs as they prepare the handpieces, feathers, and regalia that are proper to the dance.

These moments aim to reconnect spirituality to relatives, prayer for good health and positivity with our well-being, and honor the language of our ancestors in hope for moisture as the season changes to long days and short nights.

Blessings and good energy are recognized as Ohkay Owingeh, Picuris Sandia, Santa Clara, Taos, and Yselta Del Sur Pueblos gather to honor the songs, dances, and prayers dedicated to St. Anthony Feast Day.

Protecting Native LGBTQ2S+ youth is community safety. Our young relatives deserve spaces where they feel seen, valued, respected, and connected to who they are. Creating safety begins with listening, building trust, and reminding youth that they belong.

Through open conversations about healthy boundaries, consent, relationships, and wellbeing, we strengthen our circles of care and create pathways toward support.

As relatives, advocates, and community members, we all carry a responsibility to model respect, accountability, and compassion. Every action we take to protect and uplift Native LGBTQ2S+ youth helps create safer, healthier communities for future generations.

Protecting our youth is prevention.
Protecting our youth is healing.
Protecting our youth is community care.

The MMIWR crisis impacts Native LGBTQ2S+ relatives too, including Two Spirit, trans, and non‑binary relatives whose stories are too often erased or overlooked.

Protecting our relatives means building communities rooted in safety, visibility, healing, and belonging for everyone. This Pride Month, we honor our Native LGBTQ2S+ relatives and reaffirm that every relative deserves dignity, protection, and justice.

• Visibility Matters
Native LGBTQ2S+ relatives deserve: safety, dignity, protection, visibility, and justice.

• Community Care is Prevention
Healing happens through community support, safe spaces, advocacy, listening to survivors, and respecting identities and pronouns. Community care saves lives.

• We Have Always Been Here
Two Spirit and LGBTQ+ relatives have always been part of our communities, as leaders, artists, advocates, youth, elders, culture bearers, and loved ones.

Honor Native LGBTQ2S+ relatives by speaking out against violence, amplifying Native LGBTQ2S+ voices, supporting safe spaces, and advocating for justice and healing.

Pride is Community Care.

June is Pride Month, a time to honor and bring awareness to better protect Native LGBTQ2S+ relatives in all spaces. 🏳️‍🌈 They have been present in all traditions, lifestyle, and teachings that have been passed down for generations.

CSVANW believes that every relative deserves safety, belonging, and live fully as themselves with confidence. ✨ Community care means standing against violence, discrimination, and silence in all forms.

This month, CSVANW centers Native LGBTQ2S+ voices through storytelling, prevention education, and conversations that encourage healing. We envision communities where Native LGBTQ2S+ youth can grow without fear. 🪶Communities where every relative is treated with respected and care.

Pride is about more than visibility, it is about ensuring that our relatives can live with safety, happiness, and opportunity to continue the collective responsibility we have been looking for. 💜

What other ways can communities support Pride Month?
