Behind every great idea is a curious mind. When in doubt, ask a librarian. The 2025-2026 National History Day theme is "Revolution, Reaction, and Reform in History."
Students across New Mexico are getting ready for History Day with special Library Days in Farmington and Santa Fe. These events give students the chance to explore how history connects to future careers, learn research tips from library and museum staff, and discover how to find strong sources to help their projects stand out.
The first Library Day is tomorrow and will take place at San Juan College in Farmington, on November 13, 9:00-2:00pm.
Library Day in Santa Fe will be held on December 5th from 10:00-3:00pm, at the Santa Fe Public Library and the New Mexico History Museum. For more information please contact NHD in NM State Contest Coordinator at [email protected].

As students and teachers gear up for a new school year, we're already looking ahead to National History Day 2025-2026, where the theme is "Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History."

We are excited to see the creative projects students will bring to life as they explore moments of change, conflict, and transformation throughout history. Stay tuned for updates this fall as schools and teachers begin planning for the next contest year.

We know it's been a month since our History Day students competed at the History Day Nationals in Maryland, but we're still excited about how well they did!

We’re thrilled to share that New Mexico students brought home top honors from the 2025 National History Day® (NHD) contest in College Park, Maryland! Out of approximately 3000 finalists from around the world, New Mexico students placed in the Top Ten in three national categories, and earned two standout awards: History of Place and Indigenous History.

Among the many highlights, two students whose projects were named Outstanding Entries at the Junior and Senior levels, an honor reserved for standout work representing our state.

DOGE cancelled or rescinded hundreds of National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) contracts nationwide, including those of the New Mexico Humanities Council (NMHC) and other cultural based organizations.

The NEH and NMHC need your help! Follow this link which provides ways you can take action. https://conta.cc/4cd3itm

Cuts to NEH mean people will lose services, jobs, and perhaps even more importantly, access to educational programs that enable them to think freely and creatively.

Please take action now to ensure funding continues to flow to your local communities. Every voice, email, call, letter and social media posts counts.
